UNV Executive Coordinator: Address to the UNDP Executive Board

Geneva, Switzerland: On the occasion of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board meeting, 28 June 2012, UNV Executive Coordinator Flavia Pansieri stated that during 2010-2011 "around 7,500 UN Volunteers annually contributed to the strategic objectives of UNDP, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, 22 other United Nations entities, 18 Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, and peace-building support offices. These UN Volunteers were from 160 different nationalities and engaged in 132 countries, making UNV a truly global programme. UNV continues to recruit high quality UN Volunteers, while pursuing gender balance and geographic distribution."

The present report provides an overview of results achieved by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme during the 2010-2011 biennium, in support of programme countries and United Nations organizations in their peace and development efforts, including achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). It also identifies challenges and opportunities, especially in response to the Five-year Action Agenda of the United Nations Secretary-General.
