Refugees from the Central African Republic (CAR) have crossed into Cameroon to escape violence in their country. The camp of Gado, in the Garoua-Boulaï area, is next to the border of CAR and receives refugees every day. World Humanitarian Day: UN Volunteers advance humanitarian work around the world

Bonn, Germany: World Humanitarian Day was designated by the General Assembly to coincide with the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq. It is a Day to commemorate all people who have lost their lives in humanitarian service and to celebrate the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the world. UNV joins the world in recognizing those who face danger and adversity in order to help others. Read

Garoua-Boulaï, Cameroon: Refugees from the Central African Republic (CAR) have crossed into Cameroon to escape violence in their country. Today, on International Youth Day 2014, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme joins the world in celebrating the role of young women and men as partners for positive change. This year, Youth Day is addressing the issue of Youth and Mental Health with the slogan “Mental Health Matters”. For this Youth Day, UNV is drawing special attention to those young people who, through volunteerism, are enjoying the mental health benefits, sense of accomplishment and inclusion that volunteering brings.
