Bonn, Germany: The International Year of Volunteers (IYV, 2001) marked a critical milestone in worldwide efforts to promote the role and potential of volunteerism for peace and development. EC calls for civic service and volunteering project proposals 
The European Commission has announced a call for proposals through the Amicus programme, which will support transnational civic service and volunteering projects comprising research and awareness raising activities and the placement of young people within the EU. Volunteerism and FGM in Sudan by Dr. Nafisa Mohamed A. Bedri
Alexandria, Egypt: In 2006, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, along with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Ahfad University for Women in Sudan implemented an innovative program to encourage volunteerism and to mobilize local communities to combat female genital mutilation (FGM) in Sudan. The project aimed to combat FGM by drawing on volunteerism and local community action.  It has attempted to utilize a combination of new and existing approaches to bring about change in its target area, Abu Saeed in Omdurman, Sudan.

Ghana volunteer service to recruit retired public servants by GNA
The National Volunteer Service (NVS) is to recruit experienced, retired public and civil servants for national volunteerism. Nana Fosu-Amankwah, Eastern Regional Director of the National Service Scheme, announced this in Koforidua at an assessment and selection exercise of the scheme for the 2008/2009 year.  Visit site

KACCAD (Uganda) 
Since its inception KACCAD's goal has been to create awareness and development projects to raise the standard of living of underprivileged people in Wakiso and Mpigi Districts of Uganda.
