Recruitment FAQs
When should I receive a response to my application?
As a general rule, you will receive a response within four to eight weeks from the date we receive your application.

If accepted, how long will my application remain on the UNV roster of candidates?
It will remain on the roster for a maximum of two years or until we receive information that you are no longer available for a UNV assignment.

How long does it take to be assigned as a UNV volunteer?
The waiting period can vary from two months to two years. You will be informed as soon as your application has been selected for a particular UNV assignment. Please note that inclusion on the roster of candidates does not guarantee that you will be assigned as UNV volunteer.

I was included on the UNV roster before, but my file has since been archived. Can I re-submit an application?
Yes, but you should wait until your file has been closed for a year. To re-apply, simply send an updated UNV Personal History Statement Form (PHS) accompanied by any required documents that reflect changes in your personal and/or professional situation. If your file was closed two years ago or more, please enclose all certificates, diplomas and references.

Will I be included automatically on the roster of candidates at the end of my UNV assignment?
To be included on the roster again, you must re-apply by sending an updated UNV PHS Form accompanied by any required documents regarding changes in your personal and/or professional situation. If your last UNV assignment ended four years ago or more, please enclose all certificates, diplomas and references.

What is the role of the Cyprus Recruitment Resources Center?
The Cyprus Recruitment Resources Center appraises applications and maintains the database of eligible candidates. The Center is not in a position to provide information about specific UNV posts.

How will my application be updated?
Each piece of information received on your behalf is recorded in the candidate database. However, the Cyprus Recruitment Resources Center cannot acknowledge receipt of such information. Occasionally, you will also be asked to confirm your interest in and availability for a UNV assignment through a website facility.

Where can I request additional information about the UNV Programme?

If you are a national of the countries listed in the Forwarding Instructions, you may contact the corresponding organization. If you are a national of another country, you may contact either the UNV Programme Officer of the UNDP office in your country or the Cyprus Recruitment Resources Center.

Should I fill in a UNV Personal History Statement in all the languages I am fluent in?
No, it is sufficient to enclose a Curriculum Vitae in these languages.

May I choose which country I go to?
No. Candidates are welcome to submit preferences for developing countries they believe they are most suitable for, but volunteer assignments are made primarily based on the best match between a country's needs and a volunteer's skills.

Is there an age limit for volunteers?
Candidates must be at least 25 years of age. There is no upper age limit.

How long are UNV assignments?
The vast majority of assignments are from one to two years. However, there are some short-term assignments that are from  six to 12 months long.
