BONN: The beginning of a new millennium is reason enough to pause and take stock. As UNV approaches the year 2000, more than 20,000 UN Volunteers have supported efforts for peace and development worldwide. UNV promotes rights and opportunities for children and youth worldwide

Bonn, Germany: A large portion of UNV's work with children has been carried out in cooperation with the chief CRC advocate -- UNICEF. More than 800 UN Volunteers (UNVs) have worked with UNICEF since UN Volunteers started development work in the field in 1971. Read

She wears many hats, namely as household manager, farm worker in the fields, salesperson at the market or along village streets and pottery artist. She possesses the skills necessary and useful in many areas of development. N'na Marie Lokou, a UNV field worker, has identified these vital human resources. She is working on a project to generate income among women in the northern district of Diré, near Timbuktu. Read

UN Volunteers to begin registration of Kosovo residents

BONN: United Nations Volunteers are gearing up to begin registration of the Kosovo population before the end of 1999. About 130 UN Volunteers have already been fielded, and the remaining 70 are to be deployed by January 2000. According to the United Nations Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), 90 registration centres, to be managed by UN Volunteers and local staff members, have been identified so far. Read
