Liberian volunteer buried in Monrovia

Monrovia, Liberia: Yah-Lydia Wonyene, who died in the attack on the Bakhtar guesthouse in Kabul during October, was laid to rest last week near her home in Liberia. "Her passing is a tragic loss, and we express our deepest remorse," said UNV Chief of Special Operations, Kevin Gilroy. Read

New faces as UNV expands in Armenia

New Washington, The Philippines: UNV volunteer Jossie G. Esto, who died during the attack on a UN guesthouse in Kabul on 28 October, has been laid to rest in her native Philippines. "Jossie’s memory lives within each of us," said UNV Executive Coordinator Flavia Pansieri. Read

Mawlamyine, Myanmar: UNV volunteers serving in their own countries offer the UN skills and access to communities that international staff often cannot. The sheer variety of work performed in Myanmar is just one example.

There are currently nine national UNV volunteers supporting UNHCR in Myanmar. Their roles range from community field monitoring to technical assistance and community social services. Read
