UNV opens multi-media exhibit at 2010 Shanghai World Expo

Shanghai, China: The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme opened a multi-media exhibit at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo to raise awareness about the value of voluntary action and attract new UNV volunteers. The exhibit runs until 18 August and joins those of 35 other UN agencies participating in the UN Pavilion. It aims to raise awareness of the contribution volunteerism makes to peace and development and to encourage qualified individuals to apply to become UNV volunteers. Making dates for coffee in Morocco

Shanghai, China: Communicating the importance of the creative sectors for economic and social development is the objective of the digital display created by a group of 14 Guatemalan UNV volunteer artists. Shown at the United Nations pavilion of the Shanghai 2010 Expo, this multimedia display aims to make the visitor reflect on ways in which the creative industries contribute to building peace and development. UNV Executive Coordinator: Address to the UNDP Executive Board

Geneva, Switzerland: UNV Executive Coordinator Flavia Pansieri addressed the UNDP/UNFPA Executive Board on 30 June 2010.

"The UNV mandate is very inspiring," she said, "and the UNV programme provides an opportunity for motivated, committed and experienced individuals to contribute substantively to national development goals of programme countries by contributing to the work of UNDP and 22 other United Nations organizations, as well as 19 United Nations peacekeeping and special political missions."
