MDG ‘Sailing the Nile’ campaign reaches Sohag, Egypt

Raising the sails for development & volunteerism

Cairo, Egypt: Representatives of the Egyptian Government, civil society and different United Nations agencies gathered on the banks of the Nile for the official launch of the Sailing the Nile project, a national initiative to raise awareness and encourage action towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s). Between October 29th and December 7th eight feluccas will sail the Nile from Aswan to Cairo, making eight stops en route, each of which will represent one of eight MDG’s. Read

Congolese churchgoers ‘Stand Up’ against poverty

Kinshasa, DRC: Over 2,500 church attendees stood up against poverty with UNV volunteers on Sunday, 15 October. In joining the worldwide STAND UP campaign against poverty, UNV partnered with the Réseau National de la Jeunesse Religieuse, an inter-congregational Congolese organization. Read

Bonn, Germany: The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme and the Australian Volunteers International (AVI) have agreed to work together to further promote awareness of the volunteers’ contribution and the value of volunteering for society. UNV volunteers to teach at University of Liberia
