Fitting in on a remote Yemeni island

At first, local women kept their distance from Bohdana Rambouskova (Czech Republic), a UN Volunteer Communication Officer with the Socotra Governance and Biodiversity Project.  After she offered free English classes to the girls and women on this remote Yemeni island, they extended their hospitality and started inviting her to social gatherings at their homes.  Read

Enthusiastic about helping refugees in Yemen

Inequalities and the right to health in Guatemala

The result was a solid report analyzing the status of the right to health in Guatemala, showing the inequalities that characterize the country, the weakness of health determinants in rural areas and the gap in the enjoyment of this right between indigenous and non-indigenous people. Read

UNV volunteer fosters social cohesion

Before the referendum, tension that included hostile speeches from community leaders and local councillors became the order of the day. I constantly alerted the security team within the district to be watchful of an eminent attack by the Kuria on other communities in support of the then draft law. Read
