Dalia Ashour, UN Volunteer with UNICEF in Egypt
Egypt: In Egypt, Dalia has been working as a national UN Volunteer supporting UNICEF in their Communication for Development (C4D) Section.
During the past two years, she has been involved in initiating behavioural change responses, such as promoting healthy living, hygienic practices, and nutrition. She has also participated in emergency responses, including the H1N1 influenza pandemic and provided help to displaced children and families on the Egyptian-Libyan borders in the wake of the Libyan revolution.
Though her experiences in emergency response have been exciting, she has gained the most satisfaction in assisting a team whose goals are to have a lasting impact on Egyptian children and families.
“I have to admit that emergency response does have its thrill and that it probably is some of the most immediately gratifying work anyone could ever do. However, assisting a team of wonderfully talented and fully dedicated women to bring about positive change in the behavior of many Egyptian children and families (in matters of hygiene, non-violence, nutrition and more) is where I have found the most joy in my experience.”
