Supporting re-integration

Through the UNV small grant scheme, four UN Volunteers organized the delivery of materials to women so that they could continue producing and selling jewellery accessories. (UNV)
Plementina, Kosovo: The integration of Roma Ashkali Egyptian (RAE) is a challenging social issue for Kosovo. In Plementina, a small village in the Obliq municipality, a community of some 40 Kosovo RAE returnee families is facing very difficult living conditions since a fire broke out in their apartment building and made it inhabitable. Promoting eco-friendly habits

Pristina, Kosovo: Lack of awareness about environmental issues is widespread in Kosovo. Plastic bags and other waste are often indiscriminately thrown away, polluting soil, rivers and underground water. UN Volunteers are helping to draw attention to these problems and encouraging more environmentally-friendly habits among citizens. Read
A patch of hope for children

Volunteers decided to set up catch-up classes for the children to prepare for an entrance exam and be able to join the mainstream educational system. (UNV, 2011)

Making a difference

UNDP jointly supported UNV by donating desks, chairs, bookshelves and a fridge. Now the children are seated at their desks on the colourful donated chairs. As one child said, ‘finally we have our own school!’ (UNV, 2011)

Hiroshima volunteer opens paths to Kosovo recovery

The Hiroshima Peacebuilders Center (HPC) funds an increasing number of UNV volunteer assignments in post-conflict areas, so that volunteers from Japan and other Asian countries can gain first-hand experience of the challenges of recovery and contribute to the solutions. The Center is financially supported by the Government of Japan. (UNV)
