Youth social inclusion project presented in Ukraine
26 March 2009 Zhytomir Oblast, Ukraine: The implementation of the 'Youth Social Inclusion for Civic Engagement' project has started at the regional level in Ukraine. The project was launched in September 2008 with the overall objective of supporting youth social inclusion and civic engagement. The project will develop key social competencies, which are needed for proactive youth involvement in society and decision-making processes, thus providing support to further enhancement of the Government's youth policy in Ukraine. The National Executive Agency of the project is the Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports, with financial support from UNDP, UNV and Intel Ukraine; and institutional support from the Ministry of Science and Education and NGOs. The project founders expect it will strengthen the cooperation between rural and urban youth centres, build the capacity of existing youth centres, volunteers and NGOs in 12 regions of Ukraine. It will include 52 youth centres in Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomir, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Lugansk, Mykolayiv, Rivno, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkassy, Chernigiv regions and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. At the regional level, 10 national UNV volunteers will coordinate the project. Online access to educational resources will be provided for a broad audience among rural youth.
