Takehito Nakata is to retire as an honorary ambassador of the UN Volunteers (UNV) program on April 8--the 15th anniversary of the day his son, Atsuhito, was shot dead at the age of 25 while working as a UN election monitor in Cambodia. Read

BONN: On 8 April 1993, Atsuhito Nakata, was assassinated in the course of his duties as a UNV District Electoral Supervisor with the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia. Shortly after Atsuhito's death, his father, Mr. Takehito Nakata decided to follow his son's example in promoting human rights and the UN's vital work for the international community. Read
