Volunteer Voices on UNMIL Radio
04 May 2007 Monrovia, Liberia: Aired every Wednesday at 11 am since 6 February 2007, the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) radio programme "Volunteer Voices" has become a regular feature on Dateline Liberia. The series gives UNV volunteers the opportunity to impart knowledge about their roles as UNV volunteers in peacekeeping operations or their motivation and experiences – live on air! Currently more than 290 UNV volunteers are serving with UNMIL and other UN agencies in various fields of specialisation and contributing towards the peace and recovery process in Liberia. Isaac Yeah hosts the weekly radio programme with the participation of two volunteers. He says the programme gives him the opportunity to interact with UNV volunteers. “But, more importantly," he says, "it gives listeners the opportunity to learn more about UNV volunteers, their distinctive contributions to social, economic and humanitarian programmes in Liberia and their sacrifices.” Olufemi Olugbemi, UNV programme manager at UNMIL, points out that the radio programme is aimed at public awareness and promoting the impact of volunteerism in peacekeeping and sustainable human development efforts. “The programme also promotes the impact of volunteerism by encouraging the audience to learn through the voices of volunteers. Being a volunteer does not last one day, six months or one year. It is a lifetime commitment to making the world a better place,” he reiterates. Tune in to Volunteer Voices! Related articles |
