UNV and MBC Hope award outstanding young volunteers from the Arab Region

Dubai, UAE: Last night, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme brought the achievements, commitment and energy of five young volunteers into the international spotlight through a unique partnership with MBC Hope, the corporate social responsibility arm of Middle-East broadcasting giant MBC Group. 

The UNV/MBC Al Amal Youth Volunteering Award highlights the capacity of young volunteers in the Arab region to drive positive change in their communities. Moreover, it provides a platform for young people themselves to inspire each other and feel confident about their future.

Ochakov, Ukraine: More than 50 rural youth and teachers from the Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts took part in the Youth Forum organized by the ‘Young Football Volunteers' programme to learn about the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), healthy lifestyle and volunteering. The YFV programme was launched by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme in 2012 to utilize sport and volunteering as a means to tackle health and social risks. Read

UN Volunteers promote healthy lifestyles in Crimea

Simferopol, Ukraine: In February 2014 the best Crimean athletes and coaches of 2013 were honoured at one of the most important sport events in Crimea: the annual Ball of Champions. The project "Young Football Volunteers: Sport and Volunteering for the MDGs", implemented by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), was recognized as "the best public organization to promote healthy lifestyles in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (ARC) in 2013". Hamburg, Germany: Two photographs by UN Volunteer Igor Rugwiza (Burundi), Public Information Officer with the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti are featured in the art exhibition Arte Suste Mobile in Hamburg until 30 October 2013. The exhibition is an official project of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development that seeks to mobilize the educational resources of the world to create a more sustainable future. The theme for 2013 is sustainable traffic, mobility and transport. Read
