Working with the United Nations agencies system and national electoral authorities, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme supports the democratic process in countries around the world by assisting the organization, supervision and observance of local, regional and national elections. Key partners include the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Electoral Assistance Division of the UN Department of Political Affairs (DPA) and the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO). Annan asks UNVs to continue 'good work' for Congo elections

Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo: "Keep up the good work you are doing," said United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan to the UN Volunteers (UNV) programme team during his recent visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). More than 600 UN Volunteers – in addition to the staff of the UN Mission in DRC (MONUC) – are involved in the preparations for the elections. Read
