Apia, Samoa: UNV volunteer Dr. Willy Morrell has been helping to plant trees as part of a carbon-offsetting initiative at the South Pacific Games, held from 25 August to 8 September in Samoa. The project is helping to green the local environment and also offset the carbon emissions of the thousands of spectators, competitors and officials who have traveled from more than 22 countries to attend the Games. UNV China translates environmental guide for Live Earth

Beijing, China: The United Nations Volunteers Programme (UNV) in China has translated the guide "Climate Crisis Solutions" into Chinese as a practical tool to help address environmental challenges in China. The translation is part of UNV's contribution to the Live Earth event, a series of concerts worldwide on 7 July to raise awareness about the climate crisis and mobilise millions of people. Read

Zwedru, Liberia: Over 1,000 people, including UNV and local volunteers, participated in a clean up campaign initiated by UNV in Liberia on 17 November.
The one-day campaign was launched by UNV Programme Officer Ilaria Carpen and Programme Manager Olufemi Olugbemi at the city hall of Zwedru. Grand Gedeh County’s superintendent Chris Bailey, Mayor Ophelia Geedy, and UNV volunteers based in the city also attended the event. Read
