The IT helpdesk supports civilian staff at the United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT) – looking after both software and hardware. In Chad, almost no IT infrastructure exists... That's why you'll never find any of the IT staff in their offices for more than 30 minutes. We are on the go all the time, ensuring MINURCAT's civilian and police staff are up and running too. Read

Approval for Kenyan Emergency Volunteers Scheme

New York, USA: The UN Peace Building Fund has granted US$ 1 million to the Emergency Volunteer Scheme (EVS), which will promote conflict resolution in Kenya. The financial support allocated in late May gives a substantial boost to a pilot initiative underway in deprived areas of the Rift Valley. Read

For the past 15 years (1992-2007), UNV and DPKO have engaged in fruitful collaboration. UNV volunteers have taken part in 44 peacekeeping operations, with over 11,300 volunteers completing more than 16,000 mission assignments during this period. In 2007, over 2,995 UNV volunteers supported 18 UN peacekeeping and special political operations in 18 countries. Read

'Impartial' international UNV volunteers help feed Somalis

International UNV volunteers make up nearly 10 per cent of World Food Programme's international staff in Somalia. The perceived impartiality of international staff, says the WFP head in the country, is useful in facing local clans' sensitivities.
