![]() Through this report we want to demonstrate how volunteerism is crucial in achieving and maintaining peace, and in enabling development. The absence of peace in societies affects its populations, but even in those circumstances volunteers and volunteerism can make a difference and contribute to a renewal of social cohesion. Inside this report you will find examples of the contributions that UN Volunteers are making towards sustainable peace and how we work in partnerships with UN agencies, governments, civil society and other organizations to jointly achieve results. Our work would not be possible without these partnerships, nor without the generous support we receive from our donors.
Since the UN General Assembly established UNV in 1971, many UN Volunteers have been contributing to peace and development and supporting the work of UN partners. Besides the mobilization of volunteers, we advocate for volunteerism globally and the benefits it delivers to society and we encourage others to integrate volunteerism into development programming. We work to ensure the equal participation of women and men in peace and development processes and to enhance local ownership by encouraging and engaging people as volunteers themselves. The spirit of volunteerism is "at the core" of the UN's development work, Miss Clark says in the foreword to the report. Other languages: en français en español
