Field Units
Every year some 7,500 UN Volunteers worked in about 130 countries.  Many also volunteer their services online.  In 2009, due to the support of our online volunteers, we enabled more than 1,000 non-profit development organizations to benefit from the support of more than 12,000 individuals from 182 countries.

UN Volunteers come from 160 countries and many more cultural backgrounds; they bring a variety of perspectives and a wide range of experiences, expectations and approaches. This diversity ables them to work in tandem, giving their work a unique dynamism. UN Volunteers are part of a global, cumulative effort that integrates volunteerism as a core contribution to peace and development. The concept of volunteerism for peace and development is at the core of UNV’s mission.
