Report on UNV's national consultations on Arab youth volunteering

Cairo, Egypt: On the occasion of International Volunteer Day 2013, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme launched a report gathering findings, perceptions and recommendations on youth volunteerism in Arab states, as part of its regional project, Arab Youth Volunteering for a Better Future. The report is the product of twelve months of field work, focus groups, questionnaires, desk reviews and national workshops carried out in 2012 in each of the project’s target countries: Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen. Cairo, Egypt: The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme and the Governments of Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen are working on a regional project to facilitate youth volunteerism for positive and sustainable social change. Formalized during the project's first board meeting in Amman in April 2013,  'Arab Youth Volunteering for a Better Future' aims to harness the power of youth and their energy through volunteerism. Fitting in on a remote Yemeni island

Socotra, Yemen: At first, local women kept their distance from Bohdana Rambouskova (Czech Republic), a UN Volunteer Communication Officer with the Socotra Governance and Biodiversity Project.  After she offered free English classes to the girls and women on this remote Yemeni island, they extended their hospitality and started inviting her to social gatherings at their homes.  Read
