Bonn, Germany: The German Federal President, Joachim Gauck, made history on 12 September by being the first German head of state to visit the United Nations (UN) Campus in Bonn.

During his visit, Federal President Gauck honoured the work of the United Nations shortly before the 40th anniversary of Germany’s admission to the world organization. Read

Hamburg, Germany: Two photographs by UN Volunteer Igor Rugwiza (Burundi), Public Information Officer with the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti are featured in the art exhibition Arte Suste Mobile in Hamburg until 30 October 2013. The exhibition is an official project of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development that seeks to mobilize the educational resources of the world to create a more sustainable future. The theme for 2013 is sustainable traffic, mobility and transport. Read

UNV signs Memorandum of Understanding with Germany

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme signed a Memorandum of Understanding today with its long-standing partners, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ).  UNV Executive Coordinator Richard Dictus signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the State Secretary of the BMZ Hans-Jürgen Beerfeltz and GIZ Managing Director Cornelia Richter.  The ceremony took place at the premises of the Ministry, following discussions about the current and future collaboration between the three partners to support volunteerism for development. Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina: In 2013, the first UNV Interns funded by the Government of Germany deployed to duty stations around the world. The fifteen young Germans are serving one year assignments in Algeria, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Cote d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, and Timor Leste.
