Partners for Sustainable Development through Volunteerism Discuss 2030

The 2016 UNV Partnerships Forum gathers over 200 participants to discuss how to enhance global partnerships for sustainable development through volunteerism. The Forum is supported by the Ministry for Economic Cooperation for Development (BMZ) and the German Federal Foreign Office as well as the City of Bonn.

Bonn, Germany. On 13 and 14 October 2016, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme will host its second Partnerships forum at the World Conference Center in Bonn. After the first Partnerships Forum held in 2014, the theme for this year’s Forum is 'Revitalizing Partnerships: Volunteerism for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)'.

The 2016 UNV Partnerships Forum gathers over 200 participants to discuss how to enhance global partnerships for sustainable development through volunteerism. The two-day event provides a platform for government officials, United Nations Agencies and staff, volunteer-involving organizations, civil society, private sector and academia to share knowledge and expertise, and to work towards the achievement of the 17 SDGs, adopted by Member States of the UN, by 2030.

Richard Dictus, UNV Executive Coordinator, explains:

The new 2030 Agenda calls for a greater focus on innovative and revitalized partnerships. This Forum provides a unique opportunity to talk about the role everyone has in achieving the SDGs in all sectors.

Gathering together, here on the banks of the Rhine, we can explore innovative volunteering solutions, share knowledge and jointly identify opportunities.

This Forum will spark dialogue on the added value of volunteerism to peace and development, as well as the key role played by UNV in South-South Cooperation. The participants come together in Bonn to also recognize the work of volunteers in the field. Ten UN Volunteers from across the globe will take the stage to share their stories and provide inspiring insight into their assignments and the difference they are making within communities every day.

The Forum is supported by the Ministry for Economic Cooperation for Development (BMZ) and the German Federal Foreign Office as well as the City of Bonn.
