Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of EVAW Programme Analyst and Head of Sub-Office the UN Volunteer Networking and Partnership Development Officer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Assist in negotiating agreements and setting up implementation mechanisms partners and ensure that agreements are established in conformity with financial rules and the latest instructions.
  • Support the Head of UN Women Sub-Office in review the implementation and performance of project activities, including through appropriate physical monitoring to evaluate the projects by reviewing work plans, progress reports, budget, financial reports and expenditures; undertake field visits as required.
  • Undertake proper collection, monitoring and use of baselines, standards and indicators needed to measure and analyze programme performance, trends and target interventions.
  • Develop and conduct training sessions for grassroots’ women on women’s rights and gender equality topics.
  • Use the existing tools to assess the technical soundness of the operation and generate data for evidence-based decisions at the country-level.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance in issuance of audit certificates for Implementing Partners.
  • Draft minutes from the meetings, the monitoring and other reports (as specified in the individual work plan) to ensure proper documentation of project activities along with an impact and solutions achieved.
  • Support establishment and maintenance of networking and cooperation among civil society organizations (CSOs) and volunteers working on GBV and related issues.
  • Support the Head of Sub-Office in coordinating UN Women/UNHCR initiatives with other UN Agencies located in Sukhumi;
  • Liaise and coordinate with UN Women Office staff as per her/his duties in the individual work plan;
  • Provide any other relevant support to the supervisor and/or the Head of Sub-Office, related to UN Women’s mandate and project aims, through performing other duties.

Master degree or equivalent
  • Advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Social science, social work, gender studies, development studies or similar.

  • At least 2 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in implementing development programmes, analyses of inequalities.
  • Experience with project management in the area of Gender Equality is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization.

Under the direct supervision of the Head of the International Environmental Law Unit with additional reporting to the Head of the National Environmental law Unit, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Assist in performing UNEP’s roles and functions as Secretariat under the Montevideo Programme V – a global program on supporting countries to advance environmental rule of law - including the servicing of meetings, preparation of background documents, and preparing meeting reports;
  • Keep the UNEP-Law and Environment Assistance Platform up to date with environmental law news and knowledge products, and perform relevant data analysis;
  • Keep the UNEP Global Judicial Portal up to date with knowledge products, membership lists, case law, and other relevant information;
  • Support the Law Division with legal research for the Second Global Environmental Rule of Law Report to be published in 2021;
  • Assist in administering technical support and capacity building programmes for Member States on environmental law under the Montevideo Programme V;
  • Assist in the review of legal documents, instruments, or other material on environmental law and related areas under the Montevideo Programme V;
  • Assist in the preparation of legal opinions/advice on a wide range of environmental law issues under the Montevideo Programme V; and
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Master degree or equivalent

Specialization in environmental law, international law or related field.

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in environmental law or environmental governance. Prior experience at the international level is advantageous. Experience in knowledge management is also advantageous.

Within the delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the GAN Coordinator and with a second reporting line to Regional Climate Change Coordinator in the respective region or to his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Regional GAN Liaison [insert Assignment Title] will be:

  • Supporting 3 regional networks of GAN in their respective regional headquarters i.e. Nairobi, Panama and Bangkok (Africa: Ebafosa / AAKNet; Latin America: Regatta; and Asia Pacific: APAN)
  • Liaising and reaching out to other actors and networks in the region to strengthen and expand the regional presence of GAN
  • Keeping abreast of adaptation events in the region and exploring opportunities for GAN to connect / support
  • Creating and updating contact lists for the regional networks to share and cross-fertilize with GAN’s networks;
  • Building a database of regional adaptation contacts, organizations, companies, and prestigious experts along with their areas of expertise.
  • Making regular contact with leading adaptation experts including in the private sector, and keeping abreast / discovering what they’re working on, interest and expertise (for potential involvement in projects, publications, sessions, webinars)
  • Supporting bi-directional connections between regional networks and GAN (exploring ways for GAN to work to support and connect the regions)
  • Developing surveys, conducting research and outreach to gather information, evidence, synthesize knowledge and create case studies from regional adaptation work including projects in the regions on best practices, barriers to EbA adoption and uptake, for feeding into the Global EbA Fund, UNEP normative work and global processes including UNFCCC
  • Creating content in the form of articles, stories, op-eds or other for bimonthly GAN and/or regional network newsletters, websites or reports
  • Supporting and organizing virtual or in-person adaptation events, webinars, seminars or sessions.
  • Gathering information on regional adaptation reading to feed into regular GAN reading lists Dveloping reports on latest activities of updating GAN’s regional networks and partners on GAN’s latest activities

Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Master degree or equivalent

Master’s degree related to environmental management, climate change, natural resources management or other relevant area;

  • Required: At least 3 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in support of environmental or science networks or other relevant programmes; experience with adaptation, in particular ecosystem-based adaptation or nature-based solutions, is desired, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
  • Required: Excellent proven written and oral communication skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting and analytical skills in English;
  • Desired: for Latin America: knowledge of Spanish; for Africa, knowledge of French and/or Arabic;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
