Under the direct supervision of Chief HIV/AIDS & Policy Advisor, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for HIV and AIDS Programming in the assigned area of responsibility and will undertake the following tasks:

  • Training of Peer Educators (TOPE) in HIV&AIDS peer leadership, Change Agents and Counsellors including reproduction of respective course training packages;
  • Conduct HIV&AIDS inductions for newly recruited/deployed members and Contingents including administration and marking of pre & post induction assessment questionnaire(s);
  • Create HIV&AIDS weekly standing awareness programmes targeting National and International Staff Members including implementation of UN SG Bulletin ST/SGB/2007/December;
  • Offering VCCT services including safer Sex advocacy;
  • Assisting with the promotion of Voluntary Confidential Counseling and Testing (VCCT) across the Mission area;
  • Providing mobile HIV&AIDS awareness and roving VCCT services at State levels as per demands;
  • Administration of HIV Post Exposure Prophylaxis inclusive of HIV&AIDS Counselling;
  • Assessing, monitoring and evaluating training and assisting in redesigning training;
  • Assist in conducting Baseline Surveys and KAPB Studies;
  • Compilation and circulation as required of HIV/AIDS Unit Quarterly Newsletter;
  • Maintaining database for HIV&AIDS course graduates and participants in HIV&AIDS awareness sessions/activities;
  • Marking pre and post training questionnaires including course report writing;
  • Setting up and ensuring functionality of HIV/AIDS State Steering Committees in Yambio;
  • Promoting sustained positive behaviour change in HIV prevention strategies and assisting in mainstreaming HIV in other Mission Mandates like Gender, UNPOL, RRP, Medical, HR, CDT, IMTC, Counselling Section, Child Protection, etc. and SSR, DDR as need may arise;
  • Support other States in HIV&AIDS capacity building like in TOPE and HIV/AIDS Counsellor courses;
  • Sustained condom dispensing/accessibility to UNMISS Members;
  • Presenting Live HIV&AIDS tailored messages through Radio Miraya during weekly Straight Talk Programme;
  • Compiling and submitting weekly, quarterly, monthly and annual reports accordingly;
  • Undertaking liaison duties and partnership for roll-out HIV&AIDS activities;
  • Performing related ad hoc duties as may be tasked/assigned by the Chief HIV/AIDS Policy Advisor or his designate from time to time.

Under the direct supervision of the Field Engineer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Install, service, maintain and repair electrical system components in compliance with recognized standards and regulations pertaining to safety and installation codes of all electrical systems;
  • Diagnose technical faults and carry-out remedy for malfunctioning or defective electrical systems;
  • Perform diagnostics and preventive maintenance of electrical systems, all electrical lighting and power systems, main distribution and control panels for generators, water and sewage distribution systems;
  • Perform technical or other assessments of electrical systems, generating sets or buildings and infrastructure and prepare technical or other reports;
  • Apply and ensuring adherence to safety programmes related to the safe operation of electrical systems and maintenance trade;
  • Conduct in-house training to tradesmen and artisans on the imaging technical skills in the installation of specialized equipment, fault finding and remedy;
  • Inspecting and reporting on construction project work and maintenance work carried out either by contractors or tradesmen and staff under supervision and ensure proper utilization of available resources;
  • Read and interpret specifications and technical drawings, schedules, manuals for construction projects, installations and upgrade repair of infrastructure;
  • Prepare draft drawings and layout plans for Chief Engineer’s approval and ensuring the approved plans are implemented in the most efficient and cost effective manner;
  • Ensure that any work carried out by Building Management System (BMS) does not conflict with existing UN environmental, health and safety policy;
  • Coordinate regularly with other units within BMS to ensure that all work is planned and structured in a way that does not hinder the progress of any project or task;
  • Ensure that full and accurate reports are maintained on all aspects of the electrical activities.
Technical/Vocational diploma

A minimum of College Diploma in Electrical engineering or related field is required. Recognized and valid license to repair, maintain, troubleshoot and install electrical power supply systems is desirable.

  • At least five years of progressive experience in installation, repair and troubleshooting of electrical power supply, distribution and transmission systems. Experience in electrical power control system, air conditioning systems, solar power generation system, and generator electrical control system is an added advantage. The minimum years of experience will be reduced to three years if candidate has a BSc degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in United Nations entities or international organizations is desirable;

Under the direct supervision of the Information Management Team Leader, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Review and clean-up data;
  • In coordination with other information management and information technology specialists, maintain the database system for classifying and storing confidential information;
  • Collect and collate information from multiple sources;
  • Populate database with collected information;
  • Undertake administrative tasks related to information management;
  • Act as focal point for JMAC database, in terms of liaison with IT Help Desk and database service provider;

Under the general supervision of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and direct supervision of the Head Nurse/Surgeon/Medical doctor, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

  • Attend to all staff members in a walk-in clinic to provide routine medical/nursing care, first aid and assessing fitness to work;
  • Respond to all medical emergencies and assisting medical officers in providing comprehensive care;
  • Maintain proper documentation of all medical records manual and electronic, such as nurses’ notes, vaccinations, incident reports and reports on work-related illnesses/injuries etc. as required by the clinic management/policy;
  • Provide immunization and health education to staff members;
  • Dispense the requisite treatments and medications;
  • Ensure operation of nursing equipment, regular maintenance requirements, maintaining equipment inventories, evaluating new equipment and techniques;
  • Maintain medical supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipate needed supplies, place and expedite orders for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies, using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results;
  • Provide efficient and effective pre-operative nursing care to patient;
  • Maintain surgical services in accordance with competency standards;
  • Assist surgeon in carrying out OT procedures effectively;
  • Assist with patient care in recovery room, procedure room and operating room;
  • Develop and implement nursing care plan for assigned patient;
  • Execute proper use, care and handling of surgical equipment to ensure safety of operating staff and patient;
  • Maintain current and in-depth knowledge of sterile techniques;
  • Communicate effectively with operating team and other medical staff to meet needs for patient care;
  • Carryout inventory, storing and maintaining surgical equipment and supplies;
  • Prepare operating room with surgical equipment, sterile, linens and supplies that will be needed during surgery;
  • Carry out cleaning, disinfecting and autoclaving of used surgical instruments;
  • Maintain order and cleanliness in operating room;
  • Prepare patients including cleaning and disinfecting body areas for surgery;
  • Prepare timely and accurate records of patient history and recovery charts;
  • Regularly update OT drugs and surgical equipment;
  • Performs advance practice in venipuncture;
  • Recognize and interpret findings and their significance for surgical procedure referring to Anaesthesiologist as necessary;
  • Perform arterial blood gas sampling, recognize, interpret and report findings;
  • Assists in providing medical support during evacuation and repatriation;
  • Respond to emergency calls and assist doctors in providing adequate care and performing respective duties in the treatment of the patient;
  • Respond to on-call and other duties including weekends as required;
  • Communicate with patients, collagues and update doctors in the clinic;
  • Maintain patient’s records and exercises confidentiality;
  • Accords patients fair and equal treatment regardless of ethnic background;
  • Perform other duties as required;

Note: He/she will function as a general nurse when not engage in specialised area.

Medico Administrative Duties:

  • Actively contribute in planning and organizing preventive and promotive mecal practice;
  • Actively contribute in the in-service education for nurses;
  • Plan and organize First Aid Training for UNMISS staff;
  • Participate in capacity development through coaching, mentoring and formal and on-the-job training;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

The incumbent will report to the Telephone Unit Supervisor and will perform the following of the technical functions:

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of Cisco Unified Communication infratucture;
  • Provides support to the Mission staff at assigned duty station through CUCM / switches configuration, installation of end user terminal (VOIP), installation of cabling infrastructure, and UCM network troubleshooting;
  • Use network management tools to monitor, analyse, and report resources utilization;
  • Implement and support network security features on CUCM network infrastructure;
  • Assist on the preparation of specifications for the requisition of equipment related to the CUCM operation;
  • Work with the networking management unit to implementation and support IP telephony services based on Cisco infrastructure;

  • Perform routine/emergency related to electrical, vehicle air-conditioning and hydraulic repairs as well as maintenance of the United Nations Owned Equipment (UNOE);
  • Check and install Carlog as required, downloading data/updating vehicle Carlog system and following maintenance to the same;
  • Conduct vehicle/truck recoveries and roadside repairs in the field or area of responsibilities;
  • Assist in vehicle road test upon completion of vehicle maintenance;
  • Ensure that workshop is adequately equipped with safety tools/equipment, and ensure those equipment are in compliance with the approved existing health and safety guidelines and regulations;
  • Assist in vehicle maintenance and repair documentation, assigning spare parts and manpower cost to service orders through Umoja system;
  • Coach, mentoring and sharing experience with national colleagues to develop their work performance and professional skills in the respective specialized area;

  • Ensure that workshop is adequately equipped with safety tools/equipment, and ensure those equipment are in compliance with the approved existing health and safety guidelines and regulations;
  • Assist in vehicle maintenance and repair documentation, assigning spare parts and manpower cost to service orders through Umoja system;
  • Coach, mentoring and sharing experience with national colleagues to develop their work performance and professional skills in the respective specialized area;
  • Prepare and maintain warehouse inventory records, weekly and monthly technical reports and submitting to the workshop supervisor in accordance with the established UN procedures and deadlines;
  • Process of vehicle write-off cases in accordance to the established procedures;
  • Conduct vehicle inspection during handover of vehicles to UN staff. This inspection involves capturing of vehicle details , checking for damages, checking for missing tools and other fitted equipment eg. communication equipment;
  • Perform additional related duties as and when assigned by the Supervisor.
Technical/Vocational diploma
  • Degree or appropriate technical qualification in vehicle transport maintenance management, or equivalent combination of education, relevant professional training in ground transport operations.

  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in ground transport operations.

  • Have affinity with or interest in humanitarian relief, post-conflict situations, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System;

Under the direct supervision of Chief Integrated Mission Training Centre (IMTC), the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Coordinating the formulation of the Mission Training Budget as well as tracking training expenditure in different sections:
  • Coordinating the design, development, delivery and evaluation of training and development programmes with Military, Police, other mission functions and UN Country Team to ensure an integrated approach to and encompassing a range of activities including, inter alia, technical and substantive training;
  • Overseeing development and implementation of National Capacity Building programme for South Sudanese staff;
  • Coordinating staff development programmes and supporting the implementation of a National Staff Capacity Building Programme;
  • Developing strategies to effectively and efficiently meet training timetable needs;
  • Conducting Training Needs Analysis (TNA) to be used in developing Mission annual training plan to enable development of comprehensive training and development programmes that address performance gaps;
  • Identifying, advising and overseeing the development and implementation of Development and Training Initiatives and Programmes offered by Training Section;
  • Monitoring and evaluating all training initiatives and programmes and recommending improvements and revisions to meet changing and specific needs of the mission;
  • Partaking in the preparation, coordination and management of mission training budget in consultation with Chief IMTC to ensure budget preparation and utilization is done in accordance with Results Based Budgeting (RBB) principle to achieve mission training priorities;
  • Facilitating procurement activities of training services for IMTC and relevant sections.
  • Undertaking all actions required in Designing, Developing, Delivering and Evaluating training and development programmes for civilian field staff;
  • Taking the lead in developing and upgrading relevant training materials;
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of the training;
  • Building capacity of National Staff working in Training Section through coaching and mentoring initiatives;
  • Collaborating with other mission functions including the mission gender advisor, HIV/AIDS advisor, staff counselor and other UN agencies to ensure that cross-cutting issues are incorporated in the design of training and development programmes.
Bachelor degree or equivalent
  • A degree in Education or Social Sciences or Human Resources Management.
60 Months
  • Minimum 5 years (for Bachelor degree) and 2-3 years (for Master degree) of progressively responsible experience in design, delivery and evaluation of training programme involving large audiences.
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Arabic(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
Vocational education and training, and management training
  • Solid computer skills, including full proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word etc) and other IT applications and office technology equipment;
  • Certification in ICDL and/or Microsoft Applications is desirable;
  • Fluency in English Language both oral and written is required; Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in training administration;
