Under the direct supervision of Operation Officer, the National UN Youth Volunteer will serve as a focal point for administrative coordination of programme or project implementation, achieving results such as:

  • Monitoring status of programme/project proposals and receipt of documentation for review and approval;
  • Checking upon the process to establish projects and alert supervisors of any delays or action needed, submission of project documentation for final approval and signature; distribution of project documents to relevant parties upon approval;
  • Liaison with administrative staff on the verification and availability of funds, entry in computerized budget system and monitoring of approval processes.
  • Extensive liaison and follow-up with diverse organizational units on various administrative actions such as recruitment and appointment of personnel, travel arrangements, authorization of payments, disbursement of funds, procurement of equipment and services
  • Compilation and summary of basic information and data on specific programmes/project related topics or issues.
  • Regular reporting on the budget status against the established project work plan using available dashboards or pre-existing tracking methodologies.
  • Finalization of all administrative and logistical preparations required for the organisation of technical and programmatic meetings, conferences, seminars, workshop, courses and other events. This includes liaison with participants from MoH and other stakeholders.
  • Compilation and basic research of background material for technical and programmatic presentations, meetings and other events.
  • Follow-up on agreed upon activities with the relevant units and staff to take action.
  • Establishment and maintenance of filing system appropriate for each technical project or programme.
  • Compilation, formatting and editing of technical documents linked to certain project or programme activities and submission to appropriate staff for reply.
  • Information and reminders for responsible staff of follow-up dates on project activities, response or specific actions, supplying supporting material as appropriate.
  • Tracking the workflow, and monitoring the progress of work and deadlines for programme documents and follow up with the substantive offices as needed.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Under the direct supervision of the World Health Organization Representative and working within the WHO Health Emergency Cluster, the UN Volunteer - Medical Epidemiologist will undertake the following tasks:

· Provide technical advice to the MOHCC IDSR and partners, in the development and implementation of strategies and programmes related to the epidemiological needs for priority diseases, conditions and events. Under the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) and International Health regulations (2020).

· Conduct real-time analysis of outbreak intelligence data on infectious diseases, with other team members, for epidemic forecasting and detection, guide national and districts on data quality improvement, use of data for monitoring of trends, ALERT and ACTION thresholds (triggers), as well as methodologies for performing Data Quality Audit (DQA) at district and health facility level.

· Synergize surveillance and response data received from multiple sources including Health Information Systems, vertical reporting programmes, community Based Surveillance and IDSR. Improve on efficiency of data collection, correlation, analysis, interpretation and timely action.

· Provide technical support for the establishment and functionality of Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) and Public Health Management Committee (PHEMC) for potential hazards like Infectious diseases, Zoonotic events, Food safety events and chemical events at the district level as per the national guidance and standards.

· In collaboration with the MOHCC Directorates of Disease Prevention and Control (DPC) and Primary Health care, strengthen the implementation of Community Based Surveillance (CBS) for priority diseases, conditions and events including Points of entry/cross border surveillance, where applicable.

· Provide technical guidance for the establishment, implementation and maintenance of the electronic IDSR (e-IDSR) as well as related descriptive and analytical studies.

· Support the MOHCC in the production of information products and reports including weekly newsletters, quarterly bulletins, annual reports, IHR reports, outbreak situation reports, etc.

· Contribute to capacity building of the surveillance workforce at national and district levels to enhance IDSR/IHR implementation

· Timely reporting to WHO on a variety of epidemiologic data needs on daily/weekly/ monthly basis as required.

· In cooperation with MOHCC IDSR Programme, monitor and evaluate the implementation of the planned surveillance activities, as well as alert and response capacities for event detection, verification and response in compliance with IHR 2020.

· Support the conceptualization, design, execution and analysis of communicable and non-communicable disease prevention and control related operational research

Under the direct supervision of the WHO Representative, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

· Act as focal point to develop a high profile multi-media communications campaign and support the production of public information, advocacy and communication materials, such as, but not limited to, press releases, feature articles, notes for the media, talking points, background papers, briefings, speeches, questions and answers, presentations, publication forewords, newsletters, specifically related to CDS communication and WHO events, for use by print and electronic media, including traditional and social media.

· Contribute to the planning and conduct of press conferences, seminars, media interviews and other events including the coordination of media enquiries to ensure they are directed to the appropriate WHO spokesperson;

· In line with work plans, prepare relevant information for placement on the Zimbabwe and AFRO website and intranet, reviewing and updating information as the situation requires;

· To proactively network within the Zimbabwe Country office (WCO) to keep abreast of success stories, human interest stories, upcoming events and other potentially significant occasions;

· Contribute to the writing of WCO media reports as directed, and coordinate with the central communications unit in HQ, as required;

· Collaborate closely with the Communications Unit and contribute to the development of institutional communications strategies;

· To proactively engage in and advise on activities that will create visibility for the organization

· Perform other related responsibilities as assigned, including replacing and backstopping for others as required.

  1. Develop and implement communications plans which includes a timeline of key communications products.
  2. Identify subjects/stories of interest pertaining to WHO efforts at the country or Regional level to develop communications products such as feature stories, press releases and social media posts.
  3. Work together with WHO Country office and the Regional Communications Team to conceptualize a set of new advocacy documents to inform stakeholders and the general public about WHO's response, co-develop, as relevant, high quality media tools, including audio-visual, photographic and printed materials, television and radio programmes, multimedia presentations, social media, videos and press releases, bulletins etc., to promote WHO's visibility, achievements and success stories.
  4. Liaise with the press/media to advocate and disseminate information on WHO work as well as relevant events such as WHO campaigns. Organize interviews and filming opportunities to support high-visibility of WHO achievements through television, radio and newspapers, etc.
  5. Manage the development and maintenance of content for the country website and social media platforms, in compliance with guidelines and standards used throughout the Organization, to ensure consistency of approach. Critically review and improve contents.
  6. Prepare communication and advocacy products and statements to be used by the Resource Mobilization team in convincing and encouraging donors to rapidly fund the overall health sector response to affected populations.
  7. Collaborate with all relevant actors, including the health cluster, regional and field offices, other WHO departments, UN agencies, and other partners to identify and create communication opportunities and prepare communication campaigns on specific topics.
  8. Represent the WHO Country Office (WCO) in the UN Communication Group and provide appropriate technical support as required.
  9. Organize advocacy events, press interactions and meetings to increase the visibility of WHO and knowledge about the work of the WCO;

The UN Volunteer will support strengthening resilient health systems based on primary health care. The work will focus on health system strengthening to support universal health coverage, concentrating primarily on people-centred health services and integrated health care along the life time continuum of care. Under the direct supervision of the WHO Representative, the UN Volunteer will support delivery of the following:

  • Provide technical guidance and support in the formulation, monitoring and evaluation of the national health sector plans for identified Seychelles Department of Health priorities.
  • Provide technical assistance to the implementation and monitoring of the Integrated Approach on Management of NCDs for Primary Health Care (WHOPEN, Chronic Care model, HEART model, Cancer Control) developed through phased approach, taking into consideration the social and cultural aspects for the effective use and access to services
  • Contribute to the development of a Health workforce profile and national Health Workforce Account, aimed at increasing the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of the health workforce
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of technical activities pertaining health information system development including strengthening Civil Registration and Vital statistics, Nutrition Surveillance System, IDSR and NCD monitoring
  • Support the development and consolidation of the health information system to assist in the decision-making processes, focussing on technical support for the establishment of a national health observatory including the to provide information on the health situation, status and trends
  • Advise and collaborate on the development and instutionalization of Harmonized Health Facilities Assessments (HHFA)
  • Support the design, development and institutionalization of National Health Account 2018
  • Stimulate the generation, dissemination and application of valuable knowledge for policy dialogue as agreed with Ministry of Health and other sectors in the area of service delivery, Human Resources for Health and Universal Health Coverage (UHC)
  • Support the Adolescent Health Strategy development and implementation

The incumbent, being the communication and advocacy focal point, will report directly to the Partnership, Planning and Performance Lead, under the matrix reporting to the AFRO Regional Communications Manager and under the overall guidance of the WHO Representative in the Country office. The officers will collaborate with relevant technical officers in the RO. The first line responsibility involves promoting effective communication strategies and establishing press/media networks. S/he will engage with subject matter experts in the organization to agree on best tactics to advocate WHO’s work, goals and achievements. Summary of Assigned Duties :

  1. Develop and implement communications plans which includes a timeline of key communications products.

  2. Identify subjects/stories of interestpertaining to WHO efforts at the country or Regional level to develop communications products such as feature stories, press releases and social media posts.

  3. Work together with WHO Country office and the Regional Communications Team to conceptualize a set of new advocacy documents to inform stakeholders and the general public about WHO's response, co-develop, as relevant, high quality media tools, including audio-visual, photographic and printed materials, television and radio programmes, multimedia presentations, social media, videos and press releases, bulletins etc., to promote WHO's visibility, achievements and success stories.

  4. Liaise with the press/media to advocate and disseminate information on WHO work as well as relevant events such as WHO campaigns. Organize interviews and filming opportunities to support high-visibility of WHO achievements through television, radio and newspapers, etc.

  5. Manage the development and maintenance of content for the country website and social media platforms, in compliance with guidelines and standards used throughout the Organization, to ensure consistency of approach. Critically review and improve contents.

  6. Prepare communication and advocacy products and statements to be used by the Resource Mobilization team in convincing and encouraging donors to rapidly fund the overall health sector response to affected populations.

  7. Collaborate with all relevant actors, including the health cluster, regional and field offices, other WHO departments, UN agencies, and other partners to identify and create communication opportunities and prepare communication campaigns on specific topics.

  1. Represent the WHO Country Office (WCO) in the UN Communication Group and provide appropriate technical support as required.
  2. Organize advocacy events, press interactions and meetings to increase the visibility of WHO and knowledge about the work of the WCO;
