Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Deputy Resident Representative for Programme or his designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will:

Strengthen the results-based monitoring and evaluation system ;

  • Participate in the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation plans;
  • Contribute to development of data collection tools for activities in the field;
  • Contribute to preparation of semi-annual and annual program reviews / reports and ensure timely reporting ;

Strengthen national Country Office Management Performance

  • Participate and support the Projects Quality Assurance (PQA) exercise, and ensure quality control of reports;
  • Contribute to maintain a good stand (ACCLAIM or Better) of the Office in the CPI indicators exercise ;
  • Support projects with Transparency International data compliance.

Support the development of databases

  • Support the establishment of projects monitoring databases;
  • Contribute to the updating of the Program database (i.e. using ATLAS);
  • Check the quality of the data collected.

Support planning, and monitoring and evaluation exercises under UNDAF

  • Participate in meetings of the UN Monitoring and Evaluation Group;
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the UNDAF monitoring and evaluation plan;
  • Facilitate the availability of UNDP Program indicator values to UNDAF Outcome Groups and support them in the formulation of monitoring of indicators.
Master degree or equivalent

Under the direct guidance and supervision of the Chief of the Manaus Field Office, as well as the Communication Specialist based in Belem, the UN Volunteer will support the analysis of media (digital and traditional) coverage of child rights topics and issues related to UNICEF’s work aimed at strengthening UNICEF’s engagement with various media platforms. They will further carry out communication related activities such as the production of content, ensuring high quality of work and timely service delivery.

They will provide effective support and undertake the following tasks:

Media Relations

  • Maintain and update media relations contact list/database. Ensure rapid and accurate information dissemination to the media.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining close collaboration with mass media, as well as with groups and organizations whose support is essential to the achievement of advocacy and communication objectives.
  • Assist in drafting and editing articles, press releases, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials in all media formats, as appropriate.
  • Prepare background communication and promotional materials for briefing and visits of media and other special interest groups. Assist in the planning, logistic and administrative arrangements for them.
  • Assist in collaborating with the media through activities such as organizing project site visits, facilitating photo coverage and TV footage and utilizing both web-based and traditional media as appropriate, with special attention to opportunities related to the COVID-19 pandemic, to 30th anniversary of ECA and to the upcoming municipal elections.
  • Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of media materials. Maintain a library of coverage (clippings, coverage etc.)
  • Support the Communication Specialist based in Belem and the Communication Section in Brasília in compiling a daily media monitoring report that analyses UNICEF’s presence and topics of interest for advocacy and fundraising in the media.
  • Undertake a lessons learned review of successful and unsuccessful communication experiences as directed by supervisor.

Advocacy Strategy

  • Support the Chief of Manaus Field Office and Communication Specialist in outlining and implementing a Amazon Territory advocacy strategy at state (all 9 states in TAM) and municipal level (all 3 capitals in PCU in TAM), based on the overarching advocacy strategy of the Country Office.
  • Monitor and evaluate the appropriate and timely dissemination of advocacy and communication materials to target audiences and participate in the evaluation of their impact.
  • Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of media materials. Maintain a library of coverage (clippings, coverage etc.) in the Amazon Territory.
  • Ensure good quality data collection, analysis and evaluation and reporting to ensure effective communication strategies, planning and effective and efficient advocacy.
  • Support and strengthen the adolescent engagement through U-Report.

Content Production

  • Gather content and coverage of relevant country efforts to identify effective relevant country programme activities and results.
  • Produce advocacy and communication materials (e.g. briefing notes, images, videos, presentations etc.) that meet the standards set out in the Communication, Public Advocacy and Engagement Strategy 2017-2021.
  • Assist in drafting and editing articles, press releases, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials for both web-based and traditional media, as appropriate.
  • Follow up on the production of advocacy and communication materials (e.g., films, videos, audio-visuals, etc.), and oversee the qualitative aspects of production, (e.g., quality control, translations, reviews of layout and graphic design etc.).
  • Establish or maintain an up-to-date documentation centre for communication materials including publications, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc.
  • Develop and maintain a close collaboration with the media covering the humanitarian response.
  • Draft press releases, quotes and other information materials on the humanitarian response in all media formats, as appropriate.
  • Recommend and develop appropriate information and materials for engagement of the migrant/refugee community including through digital platforms
Bachelor degree or equivalent

University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field with emphasis on strategic communication planning for media mobilization.

Master or PhD and experience in social mobilization are assets.

En el marco de la autoridad delegada y bajo la supervisión del Director del Centro o su representante designado, en colaboración con el consultor en comunicación, web design y Gestión de Conocimiento (GC), el/la Voluntario/a llevará a cabo las siguientes tareas:

  • Trabajar en la implementación de la estrategia de comunicación del Centro, proponiendo el diseño de productos y herramientas necesarias para su ejecución, en particular la creación de un Microsite para el Centro;
  • Contribuir a incrementar la visibilidad del Centro mediante el apoyo a las comunicaciones proactivas (pitching a plataformas y periodistas expertos, inclusión de artículos sobre el Centro en publicaciones de aliados, búsqueda de eventos y oportunidades que aumentan la visibilidad de las acciones de CSST y GC en LAC);
  • Seleccionar potenciales contenidos para el microsite y proponer las formas de narración de las historias de éxito identificadas y apoyar con las comunicaciones sobre su impacto;
  • Promover acciones de sensibilización junto a los otros Hubs del FIDA en LAC y apoyar el desarrollo de capacidades para la formulación de insumos para el microsite, incluyendo acciones de capacitación del staff
  • Establecer lazos de colaboración con la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO) y el Programa Mundial de Alimentos (PMA) para actividades de divulgación específicas;
  • Evaluar el uso de redes sociales para cumplir con los objetivos de la estrategia de comunicación y crear contenidos para las redes seleccionadas, optimizando la relación con proyectos y donaciones del FIDA
  • Apoyar la creación de newsletters y gestionar el envío de boletines externos e internos, y actualizar las listas de contactos

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Senior Technical Advisor or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Social mobilization, Training and Volunteering Specialist will:

1.Awareness raising and outreach

  • Develop a communication and awareness raising strategy to promote national volunteering in the country;

  • Organize awareness campaigns in universities, colleges, administration, CSOs, NGOs, businesses, the general public;
  • Develop tools to promote volunteering;
  • Ensure that traditional and social media promote and report on volunteers’ activities and support the dissemination of volunteers’ testimonials and work.

2.Capacity building

  • Develop training modules and tools, and set up a system for volunteers’ training;
  • Carry out trainings on voluntary engagement and citizenship;
  • Ensure a continuous engagement with, monitor and evaluate volunteers’ activities;
  • Ensure training of Regional Volunteers Centers and Volunteers Host Organizations in management of volunteers;
  • Develop a plan to prepare and support volunteers’ socio-professional integration upon completion of their volunteering.

3.Project implementation
