Under the direct supervision of the MCO Representative, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Assist in managing the flow of information to the supervisor, in identifying priority matters that need to be urgently addressed by the supervisor and in proposing actions;
  • Analyze supporting documentation and summarize most relevant points for the supervisor; contribute to ensuring that appropriate action is taken by responsible Section Heads on matters brought to the attention of the supervisor;
  • Assist in following-up on policies and instructions presented by the supervisor.
  • Keep the Supervisor of developments in UNHCR’s major operations in the West and Central Africa regions, and of policies issues related directly to UNHCR or to humanitarian issues under the broader UN system.
  • Assist the supervisor in the preparation of statements that represent UNHCR’s overall policies and which highlight specific areas of concern. Propose and draft substantive correspondence for the supervisor. (SMC notes, talking points, meeting notes).
  • Confer with Section Heads to secure timely and authoritative information relevant to matters requiring action, decisions or the signature of the supervisor.
  • Ensure that the supervisor is prepared for meetings and missions by drafting talking points, by researching relevant information; and by establishing contacts (within and outside UNHCR) on the subject matters to be discussed.
  • Accompany the supervisor to meetings and on missions in order to prepare notes on the discussions, ensure follow-up in matters raised, and support the supervisor with any relevant input.
  • Support the supervisor in efforts to raise the profile of UNHCR and the agency’s concerns within the context of the broader United Nations system.
  • Contribute to coordinating drafts of position papers and other documents relevant to the activities of the Office.
  • Ensure that high-level visitors are appropriately addressed, that they receive background information as necessary, and that protocol is respected.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Bachelor degree or equivalent

Undergraduate degree (equivalent of a BA/BS) in Political Science, International Relations, Law or other related fields.

Graduate degree (equivalent of a Master’s) plus 2 years or Doctorate degree (equivalent of a PhD) plus 1 year of previous relevant work experience may also be accepted.

  • Proven drafting and editing skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • A proven ability to act with discretion and diplomacy is essential for this function;
  • Office Package (excellent knowledge of Word, good knowledge of Excel and Power Point), and Internet browsing;
  • Knowledge of additional UN languages such as Spanish and/or Portuguese is an asset

Under the direct supervision of the Head of VAM/M&E and with the administrative facilitation of the Heads of Field Office, the UNV will be responsible for the following, with a focus on the South West and North West (SW/NW) region:

  • Data collection, management, analysis, visualisation and reporting for monitoring purposes;
  • Coordination and provision of technical support for vulnerability and/or market assessment and mapping;
  • Capacity building and coordination on issues related to monitoring and assessments.

The UNV will perform the following tasks for the Country Office and Field Offices:

Monitoring and Evaluation

  1. Develop and follow up the monitoring and evaluation workplan, coordinate M&E activities, and implement monitoring activities on effectiveness of all food assistance interventions in the SW/NW (e.g. post-distribution monitoring, process monitoring, beneficiary needs and status, food security status, programme modalities, implementation challenges, etc.), ensure the quality of Third-Partner Monitoring.
  2. Ensure the functioning of local committees/helpdesks for the Beneficiary and Complaints Feedback Mechanism (BCFM) in the SW/NW and follow-up on the timely management of hotline complaints.
  3. Contribute to the improvement of WFP’s monitoring and assessments systems and data collection, analysis and reporting as required to support the evaluation of WFP’s impact.
  4. Participate in any targeting related activity, including CP capacity strengthening/ development
  5. Maintain and control data quality in the Country Office Monitoring and Evaluation Tool (COMET).

Vulnability Analysis and Mapping

  1. Coordinate planning and implementation of food and nutrition vulnerability assessments (e.g. EFSA, mVAM and market price monitoring), design and implement quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis activities as needed by the WFP Country Office with contribution of the Field Office and cooperating partner, apply innovative tools and ensure timely results visualization and reporting.
  2. Manage and provide technical inputs for the generation of the VAM evidence base supporting food security and nutrition policies and programmes (e.g. rapid needs assessment, situation analyses, programme design, targeting, cost effectiveness and operational efficiency).
  1. Keep up to date with and report on the latest food security and nutrition developments, and the potential impact upon WFP activities to enable timely and appropriate programme evolution and intervention.

Capacity-Building and Coordination

  1. Participate to and report on relevant coordination forums and clusters, monitoring missions, assessments, working groups and/or other technical meetings in the NW/SW, contribute to technical discussions and ensure regular reporting to the Country Office.
  2. Ensure that the quality of data collection management and analytical outputs produced for M&E and VAM in the SW/NW are in line with WFP’s standards and practices and build the capacities of staff and partners to contribute to the production of high-quality monitoring, data management and analysis, and reporting.
  3. Any other duty as required.
Master degree or equivalent
  • Advanced university degree (or first level university degree with training/courses and additional relevant work experience) in one or more of the following disciplines: Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Food Security, Nutrition, Geography, Social Science or related field.

  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible work experience in collecting geospatial and socioeconomic food security data, conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses, and reporting findings to senior leaders and donors, database development, visualization, or other related areas.
  • Ability to conduct data collection using various methods and strong experience in conducting primary quantitative and qualitative data collection, survey implementation and qualitative and quantitative analysis, particularly in crisis contexts and/or food security and nutrition programmes.

Sous la supervision directe de la Spécialiste C4D et la chargée de Programmes Adolescence et Jeunesse, le/la Volontaire des Nations Unies effectuera les tâches suivantes:

  • Lire et prendre connaissance de l’ensemble de la documentation C4D et ADAP existante et les actions en cours ;
  • Soutenir le développement, la mise en œuvre et le suivi-évaluation des stratégies de changement de comportements pour/par et avec les adolescent.e.s et les jeunes ;
  • Etablir une cartographie détaillée des réseaux existants au niveau national et assurer la mobilisation de ces derniers dans les différentes initiatives mises en œuvre ;
  • Développer et soutenir le renforcement de partenariats avec les réseaux et organisations de jeunes et autres partenaires, pour la participation de ces derniers dans des activités visant le changement social et de comportement ;
  • Soutenir pour assurer une participation significative des adolescents et des jeunes dans les initiatives et actions lancées ;
  • Soutenir dans le développement et le lancement de nouvelles initiatives/programmes novateurs (nouvelle plateforme digitale etc…)
  • Tout autre travail requis par les superviseurs du poste.
