The National UN Volunteer, under the direct supervision of Assistant Special Representative Gaza and guidance of the Accelerator Lab team will undertake the following tasks:

  • Support sensing and communicating emerging development trends, data, technologies and issues; and mapping their impacts on the economy, environment, and society;
  • Support the design of specific field research and participatory methods to focus on the most vulnerable populations and those not usually engaged in public policy debates;
  • Support the mapping and assessessment of local solutions and define pathways for their scale up, and determine best methods fo making solutions transferable;
  • Support the design of experiments to validate the hypotheses and test the effectiveness of identified solutions in Gaza;
  • Support the testing of solutions and potential ideas in real life context to understand potential channels of scaling up (including identifying private and public sector venues for uptake);
  • Support the capturing of results and learning from the experiments for rapid reflection and adaptation;
  • Support the outreach and engagement with universities and think tanks in Gaza; and
  • Support the integration of the Accelerator Lab methodology into UNDP programmes in Gaza and engage with the programme team to facilitate the adoption of new / innovative approaches and validated solutions.
  • Strengthen their knowledge on the SDGs and the United Nations Development System.
Bachelor degree or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Sociology, International Development, Business, Social Sciences, Engineering or related field;
  • Master degree or enrolled in a Masters programme in the above areas is welcomed.

Professional working experience of over 2 years.

(Required)

  • Experience designing and conducting qualitative and quantitative research and analysis;
  • Experience in building partnerships, working in participatory methods and engaging diverse stakeholders such as civil society, academia, private and public sector; and
  • Experience in innovative approaches / entrepreneurship activities in Gaza.

(Desirable)

  • Experience in development programming or policy development;
  • Experience in approaches such as ethnography and behavioral insights, design-thinking;
  • Experience working on social entrepreneurship, inclusive business models, innovative products and services, incubation, etc.; and
  • Experience identifying gaps and opportunities in the innovation ecosystem in Gaza.

Skills:

  • Strong communication (verbal and written) with diverse stakeholders;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team;
  • Thinking out of the box, and coming up with creative non-conventional ideas;
  • Adaptability to a multicultural environment, respecting diverse backgrounds and points of view; and

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Chief Transport Section or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Transport Assistant will:

Raise notification and service order for the workshop and warehouse to release spare parts required to workshop mechanics and motor transport officers or perform maintenance services;

Managing the reception, production control and output of the workshop of all vehicles within the mission;

Monitoring the overall performance of workshop, ensuring the appropriate maintenance of individual types based on the age and technical performance of each make/model;

Ensuring quality control of repairs and maintenance and safety condition of the vehicles.

Identifying and monitoring the requirement for workshop tools/special equipment necessary for the efficient production;

Coordinate with the warehouse on the regular inventory and the availability of spare parts in stocks;

Oversee the workshop records in Umoja, prepares financial and budget summaries, writes reports and submits them to Fleet maintenance unit for review;

Determines generic technical specifications, estimates quantity (number of units), drafts proposals for requisitions for spare parts, tools and equipment in accordance with the UN procurement procedures;

Monitors the constant availability of vehicles for temporary assignment in support of one-off and emergency;

Conducts distribution of non-expendable transport assets;

Conducts bi-annual physical inventory of non-expendable transport assets in accordance with the established procedures and deadlines;

Maintains records for non-expendable transport assets, including records in fleet management databases;

Participates in the development of the Transport Section’s annual budget proposals;

Processes the vehicle write-off cases in accordance with the established procedures and deadlines

Conduct periodic, physical inspections on vehicles, to ensure they are maintained correctly, daily cleanliness (indoor and outdoor of the vehicle) and to detect damage and loses as well as for day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle: check oil, water, battery, tires, etc.;

Perform a variety of additional, ad-hoc tasks as and when required by the Chief Transport Officer and/ or his designated as required in accordance with UN policies and procedures.

Technical/Vocational diploma

High School diploma/certificate plus relevant certification/diploma or other academic qualifications or training in mechanical or automotive engineering maintenance.

36 Months

At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in repair, maintenance, and operation of MHE/CM and vehicles, or other mechanical equipment maintenance and repairs. This period can include formal nationally recognized and accredited apprenticeship programme; Three years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair is required. Experience working in the UN system is an asset; Full unaided physical mobility;
