Under the guidance and supervision of the Deputy Head of the GEF Secretariat and in close collaboration with other colleagues on the team, the selected candidates would be expected to provide accurate translation services in a manner that reflects the true meaning and understanding of each text.

Specific tasks include:

• Review, translate, edit, and proof-read all GEF-related documents, email texts and communication materials, meeting relevant deadlines and ensuring a high level of quality, accuracy, coherence and comprehension.
• Work closely with designated staff and experts to ensure consistency and accuracy on terminology, word choice, style and quality.
• Apply a gender-sensitive lens to all translated material, utilizing approved UN terminology.
• Demonstrate willingness to support other tasks related to the translation of deliverables as assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;

Sous la supervision directe de l’Administratrice Associée de Protection à la Sous-délégation de Ruyigi, le/la Volontaire des Nations Unies effectuera les tâches suivantes :

• Interpréter avec précision de Kiswahili et Kirundi/Kinyamulengue en Français et Anglais et vice versa pour les interviews avec les réfugiés ainsi que pour autres évènements (y compris mais pas exclusivement : campagnes d’information publique, formations, missions, et réunions) ;
• Fournir une reproduction précise des principes et idées dans la langue spécifiée ;
• Utiliser des dictionnaires et/ou glossaires des expressions techniques pour référence si nécessaire ;
• Interpréter de la terminologie formelle aussi bien que langage courant, jargon et acronymes inclus ;

• Appuyer les missions de pays de réinstallation en termes de traduction, interprétariat et remplissage des formulaires pendant les entretiens de pré-sélection et sélection.
• Appuyer au besoin les activités liées au rapatriement dans les Centres de Transit, incluant l’accueil et l’accompagnement des rapatriés ainsi que la coordination des autres activités d’assistance en collaboration avec les partenaires opérationnels.
• Participer dans les missions de monitoring de protection ou monitoring des frontières en compagnie des assistant de terrain/ protection.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Senior Human Rights Officer (Coordinator), leading the implementation at the field level of the OHCHR G5 Sahel Compliance Framework Project (FC-G5S) in Bamako, Mali, and under the direct supervision of the Team Leader for Burkina Faso, or his/her designated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will perform the following tasks:

• Facilitate the implementation of human rights mandate in the designated area of responsibility (AOR);
• Contribute to the implementation of the Compliance Framework of the FC-G5S;
• Gather information, analyse and report on the human rights situation in the designated AOR, including through close cooperation with other United Nations actors and the community;
• Follow up on individual cases of violation of human rights and international humanitarian law and related issues with authorities, with the aim of stopping or preventing human rights violations or seeking remedial action by the authorities to prevent similar violations occurring in the future;
• Contribute to the design and implementation of strategies aiming at enhanced Protection of Civilians in the AoR;
• Establish and maintain cooperative contacts with government representatives, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations, UN agencies and other partners operating in the AOR;
• Assist in conducting human rights capacity-building activities and in developing and implementing human rights training programmes per the Compliance Framework Project;
• Contribute to and/or draft various reports, communications, briefing notes, statements or other products;
• Conduct fact-finding missions and investigations into abuses/violations of human rights or humanitarian law;
• Ensure, coordinate and supervise the timely entry of accurate and verified human rights cases into the Project database; conduct quality control and deliver statistics and trend reports as required;
• Ensure human rights mainstreaming within UN planning and programming;
• Ensure the integration of gender perspectives, with specific attention to issues related to women and girls, including conflict-related sexual violence, within all assigned human rights activities;
• Represent the Compliance Framework Project at working level meetings, as relevant;
• When working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-)governmental counterparts, set aside dedicated time for capacity development through coaching, mentoring and formal and on-the-job training; and

• Perform other related duties as required
