Under the direct supervision of Chief Human Rights officer and his designated official in the Sector and/or Officer in Charge Human Rights Office and within delegated authority, the UN Volunteer Human Rights Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Researches and collects information pertaining to human rights matters, including their gender dimensions, from a variety of data sources; assists in the analysis of information, to include the impact on the human rights situation in CAR.
  • Enter all cases on the human rights database according to human rights standards and its methodology.
  • Maintains awareness of current human rights issues in the Region assigned to include relevant political and legal developments.
  • Contributes to the identification of human rights issues/problems, including their gender dimensions, through good research and analysis and timely preparation of reports, etc.
  • Liaises with government representatives, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations, UN agencies and other partners to create baseline data on the human rights situation in the Region assigned with special attention to vulnerable groups.
  • Participates with other Human Rights Officers in discussions with relevant authorities and other influential actors with the aim of stopping or preventing human rights violations or seeks other remedial action by the authorities to prevent similar violations occurring in the future.
  • Drafts a variety of types of reports relating to human rights matters.
  • Participates in human rights training programmes for national law enforcement officials, representatives of the civil society and human rights non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in order to promote national capacity building.
  • Reviews human rights issues, including their gender dimensions, and participates in discussions with other Human Rights Officers on the integration of these issues into political, humanitarian and economic efforts and programmes.
  • Contributes to formulating courses of action that aim to alleviate immediate and long-range human rights problems.
  • Demonstrates effective interaction with colleagues and other concerned parties internally and externally.
  • When working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counterparts, the incumbent is strongly encouraged to set aside dedicated time for capacity development through coaching, mentoring and formal and on-the-job training.
  • Performs other related duties as required by direct supervisor

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are expected to:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
Master degree or equivalent

An advanced university degree ( Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience is also accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree

  • A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or a related area.

  • Experience in human rights monitoring and reporting is required. Experience in working in a United Nations common system field operation (inclusive of peacekeeping, political missions and UN agencies, funds, and programmes) – or similar international organization or non-governmental organization – in a conflict or post-conflict setting is an advantage. Experience working on thematic issues relevant to the MINUSCA mandate and/or work experience in Central Africa is desirable

  • Helpdesk Support

Maintains and logs all requests for computer requests and incidents into Service Gateway platform. Performs help desk support to an increasingly complex environment, e.g. hardware and software trouble-shooting, upgrade and installation of hardware (PC, Laptops, printer, memory, etc.) and software (Windows 10, Office 365, Citrix, etc.). Participate in analysis of problems, diagnose errors and corrects simple problems. Refers more complex problems to ICT Officer.

  • Technical Support

Assists in installation of new or replaced hardware and software system as per agreed section plan. Ensures that all HW and SW are in compliance with UNICEF standards.Ensures that all HW/Printers/Scanners etc. are in fully functional state and under guidance from appropriate specialist ensure periodic maintenance of the HW equipment.

  • Backup of Data

Ensures that a daily backup of key applications and systems are done, and backup media stored in the designated area. Proper records to be kept for all backups and movement of backup media.

  • Inventory and ICT Asset Management

Maintains hardware and software inventory list in SharePoint Team Site
In consultation with ICT officer, carry out asset disposal activities with proper record management and approval

  • Ad Hoc Assignment and Administrative Support

Performs any other tasks as assigned by Supervisor. This includes clerical/secretarial tasks: filing, making photo copy, typing memos, assembling manuals and other materials, etc.

Provides installation and stand by support to all meetings with in the office or in hotels as appropriate

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Project Manager, in close cooperation with the Team Leader on Income Generation and other relevant project team, the International UN Volunteer on Digital Transformation of rural economy in Aral Sea region will contribute in the delivery of the new innovative projects (with focus to youth and rural women) in the project target districts to be implemented within the frame of the Government of Japan funded - UNDP and UNFPA Joint Programme “Building the Resilience of Local Communities Against Health, Environmental and Economic Insecurities in the Aral Sea Region” , specifically this will include:

  1. Strategic advice on the digitalization and its impact on regional economy of the Aral Sea Region focusing on the following results:
  • Analyses global, regional trends and dynamics, and practical solutions and successful initiatives in the digitalization of economy and advises programme on how these could be potentially utilized in the context of the Aral Sea Region;
  • Capitalizing on advantages of digitalization develops strategic value proposition for digital development (smart communities, e-commerce, fin-tech, agritech, etc.) and puts forward a concrete action plan for its implementation in the Aral Sea Region;
  • Seeks opportunities for engagement in the digital economy and advises programme on how to leverage its programme in the Aral Sea Region to promote digital development for the SDG;
  • Builds partnership with line ministries and other stakeholders to enable digitalization processes in the Aral Sea Region;

2) Technical support to Aral Sea Region programme on digital development in rural areas focusing on the following results:

  • Taking into account regional specifications together with programme team designs rural digitalization tools, approaches that best addresses community needs in employment, job creation with focus to future jobs, education, integration of SME in digitalization, social services and community centred initiatives;
  • Develops list of critical enablers to implement digitalization process in rural areas and transforms knowledge and skills in a way that, mechanism is clear and simple to implement, while ensuring sustainability of the process;
  • Deploys consistent, result oriented and practical interventions in the field, which generates rapid transformation of pilot communities;
  • Provide capacity building trainings in the areas of digital development.

3) Facilitate knowledge building and knowledge sharing on digitalization as required by the organization, focusing on the following results:

  • Identification and synthesis of the best practices and lessons learned on digitalization development directly linked project activities in the Aral Sea region;
  • Researches, maps and scans opportunities in the context of digitalization in the Aral Sea region and shares findings regularly with relevant project team;
  • Contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice on digitalization;
  • Think creatively and pro-actively to identify and address emerging problems to ensure timely and efficient delivery of the project.

Within the overall supervision of the RR/DRR or their designated mandated representative(s), Economic Development Officer will work very closely with the Development Economist.

  • Support all steps of project planning, including identification of target areas, participants and other key stakeholders, such as municipalities, cooperatives, farmers groups, extension officers, information extension providers;
  • Assist the completion of the baseline surveys and other necessary research pieces;
  • Support analysing financial incentives for farmers’ adoption of new agricultural technologies, tools and methods or engagement in different steps of value chains;
  • Coordinate and liaison with local government, provincial government as well as other stakeholders to enrich the program and enhance access of the beneficiaries to
  • Support the preparation of detailed implementation strategies for socio-economic recovery package targeting agricultural value chains, in collaboration with implementing partners;

Under the direct supervision of International Consultant for the development of the Country Programme Document (CPD) 2021-2025 UNDP Somalia, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following task:

  • Facilitate Country Programme Development (CPD) stakeholder consultations and analysis of the findings, in collaboration with the drafting team
  • Support the international consultant to identify programme priorities (2 to 3 pages) drawing on the Theory of Change, in support of UNDP’s contribution to the UNCF
  • Support the international consultant in the preparation of the first draft of the CPD and related annexes ensuring alignment with the NDP9, the UNCF and UNDP strategic plan. The draft CPD will also draw on the outcomes of the problem analysis and the background documents gathered during the data collection and synthesis stage of the CPD preparation.
  • Support the international consultant to prepare a first and second draft, pre-PAC, of the CPD Results and Resources Framework in line with the stipulated corporate guidance and template, ensuring alignment with the UNCF and the Corporate Strategic Plan.
  • Together with the international consultant, finalize the CPD and all cited annexes and attachments after consultation and validation with key stakeholders incorporating final comments from UNDP programme units, UNDP senior management and UNDP RBAS
Master degree or equivalent

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or above) in Social Sciences, or other relevant disciplines, with experience in programme development in crisis/post-conflict settings and social research and analysis.

The incumbent will report to the Telephone Unit Supervisor and will perform the following of the technical functions:

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of Cisco Unified Communication infratucture;
  • Provides support to the Mission staff at assigned duty station through CUCM / switches configuration, installation of end user terminal (VOIP), installation of cabling infrastructure, and UCM network troubleshooting;

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Secretary of UNSCEAR or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will:

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate multidisciplinary work to support the development of the UNSCEAR evaluation of public exposure due to natural and artificial sources, based on approved project plan and feedback from the Committee and its secretariat;
  • Liaise with organizations and experts of the UNSCEAR expert group on public exposure, the Committee and international organizations to collect and collate updated published information related to public exposure from natural and artificial radiation sources;
  • Support the secretariat and the UNSCEAR expert groups in data collection, analysis and evaluation of trends of exposure worldwide with focus on the general public;
  • Collect, collate, analysis, and document published information on public exposure, as well as support and disseminate this information to relevant UNSCEAR expert group members;
  • Arrange meetings and document records and proceedings of the UNSCEAR expert group on public exposure, as appropriate;
  • Systematically archive published information and records, including associated documentation and procedures for their sharing with the expert group, and the UNSCEAR secretariat;
  • Support the development and review of draft progress reports to ensure accuracy and traceability;
  • Conduct periodic internal review of data collection and support the expert group work with respect to adherence to data and information guidelines, appropriate conduct of experts, and application of methodology;
  • Assists the UNSCEAR secretariat in preparing outreach activities related to the sources and effects from exposure of public to ionizing radiation and -on request- in other relevant matters;
  • Support the expert group and the secretariat in updating and developing guidance on quality criteria for public exposure assessment, as well as methodological approaches by various experts conducting scientific data analysis and dose assessments;
  • Assist the secretariat, on request, in matters related to the Committee’s work, including participation in technical working group sessions and other inter-sessional work;
  • Support the UNSCEAR Secretary with coordination within the expert working groups; and keep the secretariat of the Committee informed about all developments of the public exposure project;
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the UNSCEAR Secretary.
Bachelor degree or equivalent

Bachelor degree or equivalent (preferably Masters) in a relevant area, e.g. physics, chemistry, biology or medicine.

Under the overall supervision of UN Women WCARO Policy Adviser for Peace & Security and Humanitarian Action, the project coordinator will be responsible for the following key Functions:

  1. Strategic direction and technical management of the project
  • Provide technical and strategic assistance to project activities, including planning, implementing and monitoring, and ensure quality control of interventions;
  • Provide practical support to country offices and implementing partners in the areas of project management and planning, field activity implementation and management, as well as monitoring and evaluation of the project impacts;
  • Develop terms of reference of consultants and subcontractors, and assist in the selection and recruitment process and provide technical supervision of the work carried out by the experts and consultants hired by the project;
  • Advising on political and legal issues concerning the project;
  • Ensure the preparation and revision of the project annual plan of Action;
  • Inform the regional adviser of the progress of the project, according to the mechanisms and frequency established in the project document;
  • Represent the project at regional and national levels;
  • Record and maintain documents on relevant Programme activities, issues, and risks.
  1. Ensure quality project coordination, implementation at regional level and timely donor reporting
  • Coordinate relationships with partners to support implementation and expansion of the projects, raise potential problems and suggest solutions;
  • Identify capacity building needs and support partners through technical assistance, mentoring, training and capacity development initiatives as needed.
  • Collect information from country offices and ensure the timely submission of quality progress reports and donor reports as well as the other reporting documents (multi-year, annual, quarterly, operational, reports);
  • Contribute to strategic connection, result-based reporting and knowledge management with global Women’s Resilience to Disasters and Crisis program and support strategic cooperation particularly between the Sahel Resilience Programme and thePromoting women’s resilience in the Lake Chad Basin Region” programme” in joint cooperation with the Sahel Resilience Programme Coordinator.
  • Gather and compile all information necessary for monitoring and reporting on program and projects from the planning to the evaluation stages;
  • Monitor the implementation of activities and the expenditure of funds; conduct regular monitoring visits, as required;
  • Draft and provide inputs to annual and quarterly reports; coordinate the submission of implementing partner financial and narrative reports;
