The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme in Brazil and the State of Minas Gerais, through the Department of Human Rights, Social Participation and Citizenship, signed an agreement to establish a Volunteer Network in Minas Gerais.
Minas Gerais, Brazil: The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme in Brazil and the State of Minas Gerais, through the Department of Human Rights, Social Participation and Citizenship, have signed an agreement to establish a Volunteer Network in Minas Gerais.
The project seeks to promote the creation, structuring and implementation of a Volunteer Network in Minas Gerais, through the joint action of partner institutions, in order to contribute to the promotion of social participation and collective solidarity for local transformation.
A virtual platform will be created to allow the registration of institutions that require volunteer assistance, as well as the registration of people who wish to offer their volunteer services. The network will be coordinated by a Steering Committee composed by the partners who signed the agreement, and it will grant access to others who also wish to participate.
The idea of the project came about because volunteer initiatives in the State of Minas Gerais are currently decentralized, and there is a general lack of knowledge about volunteer opportunities, as well as limited access to them, resulting in a reduction of volunteer opportunities on offer in the State.
The agreement to start the implementation of the Volunteer Network in the State of Minas Gerais was signed by UNV Brazil, the Secretariat of State for Human Rights, Social Participation and Citizenship, the Minas Gerais Tribunal of Justice, the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais, the Voluntary Social Assistance Service, and the Secretariat for State Planning.
