The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme has organized consultations to explore how volunteerism can be given more visibility during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This follows the successful support provided by UNV during the Beijing Olympic Games.

On 28 August, Brazil’s National Volunteer Day, the 2016 Olympic Games Volunteer Recruitment website was launched. Anyone interested can volunteer to share their skills and meet people from all over the world:

People can register to become volunteers for the 2016 Olympic Games, Rio 2016, from 28 August to 15 November 2014. Up to 70,000 volunteers will be recruited to support the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. There will be two categories of volunteers: Generalists (no specific qualifications needed) and Specialists (with knowledge of sports, languages, technology and medical services).
