Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Specialist, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Support programme planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting for the overall Child Protection programme with focus on the Violence Against Children (VAC) output area in particular

  • Contribute to the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of child protection programmes particularly related to programmes aimed at ending Violence Against Children (VAC), including addressing harmful practices and online abuse and exploitation.
  • Contribute to formulate, design and prepare project proposals, ensuring alignment with UNICEF’s overall Strategic Plans and the Country Programme, as well as coherence and integration with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), regional strategies and national priorities, plans and competencies.
  • Support monitoring of programmes/projects through field visits (including remote monitoring in line with COVID 19 safeguarding measures) and exchange of information with partners to assess progress, identify bottlenecks, potential problems and child protection risks. Make recommendations accordingly to resolve issues and/or refer to relevant officials for timely resolution. Document best practices and lessons learned.

  • Collaborate with Government, UN agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and UNICEF zonal offices on planning and implementation of activities, especially in relation to the dissemination of the Violence against Children survey results and National Prevention and Response Plan. Ensure organizational priorities are fully considered and integrated in development planning and agenda setting.

  • Monitor and verify the optimal and appropriate use of programme resources (financial, administrative and other assets) in compliance with organizational rules, regulations, procedures, donor commitments, as well as standards of accountability and integrity. Ensure timely reporting and liquidation of funds advanced to implementing partners.

  • Support monitoring, data collection and reporting against the Child Protection Section annual workplan and the office Annual Management Plan indicators. This will also entail mobilizing funding in support of planned activities, promoting visibility and advocacy for the protection and well-being of children in humanitarian context
  • Support strengthening monitoring, data collection and reporting of the implementation of the ‘National Prevention and Response Plan on Violence against Children 2019 – 2023’ (NPRP on VAC) and provide technical and operational support to government counterparts, NGO partners, UN system partners with regards to the implementation of the NPRP on VAC and any related activities.
  • Work with the Child Protection Specialist in strengthening the Technical Working Group on the National Parenting Progamme for effective coordination, implementation of the national parenting programme, and for leveraging of resources.
  • Provide technical and operational support to the National Technical Working Group to develop the National Parenting Programme, including the development of Programme Guidelines, a National Parenting Manual, a Facilitator’s Manual and a Roadmap to scale out parenting programme in the country, and any other programme related documents and activities as needs be.
  • Support work to address online protection of children, including implementation of the National Plan of Action which is being finalized as well as other remaining activities and initiatives under a multi year project on child online protection which is coming to an end in the end of 2021.
  • Support with the coordination, monitoring and reporting on programme results for the section and develop harmonized tools for data collection, consolidation, manipulation and visualization. Collect and consolidate data for donor proposals and reports and both internal and external reporting exercises.
  • Support other programme activities related to child protection and integrated initiatives as required by the supervisor

  • Contribute to integrating cross-cutting issues into the child protection programme, i.e. gender, communication for development, adolescents, livelihoods opportunities, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), advocacy as well as enhancing cross-sectoral coordination and collaboration.

Support the implementation of child protection components of the ‘Nutrition Improvement in Children through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) II’ project, including the provision of technical and operational support during the planning and rollout of trainings and sensitization efforts to promote positive parenting for violence prevention and alternative family based care and to strengthen the capacity of community-based child protection mechanisms to respond to violence.

  • Good analytical skills and understanding and experience in collecting and analysing data, generating visual tools, drafting policies and guidelines;
  • Experience with multi-stakeholder engagement
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, oral) in English;
  • Demonstrated track record in report writing and documentation;
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse professional backgrounds;
  • Experience in grant management is an advantage;

Description of task

Description of task

Description of task

The Regional Family Liaison Officer will have a dual reporting line: administratively, RBFLO reports to Regional Staff Counsellor; and technically, RBFLO reports to Global Family Liaison Officer. The position will be based in Nairobi and have a regional remit. Travel is required to remote and difficult locations.

The RFLO will drive various programmes and interventions. These would expand in scope in line with the findings of surveys and focus groups. They would include but not be limited to:

  • Identifying needs, advocating and implementing creative solutions to support families to fulfil the WFP goals of inclusivity and to ensure dependants and families feel supported wherever they are located.
  • Facilitating social support through local WFP FLOCK groups to help alleviate the acute stress and isolation common during relocation or when families have to live at distance from the WFP staff member. (supporting the global Facebook group and database and the creation of local social media groups where appropriate).
  • Identifying local resources for families (mental health professionals, specialized services for children with special needs, schools, shelters, social organizations for spouses, training opportunities - language, employment networks).
  • Outreach and creation of external partnerships that can further improve support to WFP staff and their families.
  • Working across functions to maximize support to families and advocate for their needs (HR, security, admin) and acting as a liaison within the Region for family issues.
  • Contributing to developing family pages for the local pages of the WFP Wellbeing Platform/App and other communication platforms.
  • Participating in developing specific projects and programmes and raising awareness on topics such as domestic abuse/ parenting.
  • Participating in the Regional and targeted Country Wellness Committees and advocating for family activities

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Chief, Youth, Education and Advocacy Unit or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will work on:

  1. Coordinator of the UNEP sports program:
  • International Olympic Committee(OIC) partnership: With colleagues in UNEP and IOC, work to ensure the 2021 / 2022 workplan is delivered and seek out new opportunities to build out this collaboration and define the next workplan.
  • Sport Report: Project manage the delivery of a new annual report with a range of partners that will seek to outline how sport can act on the climate / nature crisis.
  • Sport for Nature: Project lead the creation of a new Sports for Nature Alliance with the International Olympic Committee and other partners, which would raise the profile of sport on this agenda in the build-up to Paris 2024, and beyond.
  • Other sports initiatives: With others, consider new relationships on a case-by-case basis to take forward that would support the objectives of the new 5 year UNEP Medium Term Strategy (which focuses on climate, nature and pollution) with sport as a medium for action / awareness on this agenda.
  • Raising the profile of this agenda internally / externally: Raise the profile of UNEPs work with sport inside UNEP, with other UN partners and at key external moments during the course of the year, including a new Ambassador work plan.

  1. Develop substantive paperwork on other agendas as / when required:
  • Fundraising: Consider how funding for this work could be taken forward with other key partners;
  • New opportunities and initiatives: Provide substantive ideas on other analogous opportunities, such as sport / video gaming, with other members of the team at key spike moments during the year.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Enterprise Risk Management Officer or her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV should have the following qualifications/requirements:

  • Coordinate audit, evaluation, review and stakeholder reporting responses across divisions, including the management of response systems and quarterly reviews for various internal and external auditing bodies.
  • Remediation and response planning for Internal Controls, including the issuance of the annual Statement of Internal Control (SIC).

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Head of Emergency Preparedness and Response the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Support coordinated humanitarian operational preparedness for, and response to, emergencies in the region, including through frontline surge, and support (remote and in-person) for the development of relevant products such as contingency plans, the Humanitarian Programme Cycle, flash updates, humanitarian financing (e.g. CERF) etc.
  • Monitor, analyse and report on humanitarian developments, disaster relief/management or emergency situations in assigned areas of Southern and Eastern Africa;
  • Follow developments in countries assigned by the supervisor, keep relevant country profiles up-to-date, interact with the Resident Coordinator’s Office coordination specialist for assigned countries, and highlight any issues of concern to feed into the daily operational update.
  • Provide frontline surge in response to new emergencies, the escalation of existing emergencies and/or fill critical gaps.
  • Make contacts and nurture relationships with key interlocuters in your countries of responsibility and thematic areas.
  • Develop or feed into any country/thematic reports/documents that might be required e.g. snapshots, outlooks, sitreps, etc.
  • Assist in the production of appeals for international assistance - including Humanitarian Needs Overviews, Humanitarian Response Plans and Flash Appeals - in the region;
  • Organize and participate in meetings, conferences and consultations with other agencies and partners on humanitarian and emergency relief-related matters in the region;
  • Support the RCO in the preparation of relevant CERF reports in countries under ROSEA’s coverage without OCHA country offices.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Director of Governance Affairs Office the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Develop innovative outreach and communication material targeting main stakeholders served by the Governance Affairs Office.
  • Draft and edit web based newsletters such as the weekly update on activities of the Governance Affairs Office to the Communications Division, with coordination with the Director and other staff members.
  • Carrying out research, analysis and drafting of documents, and ability to present data in visually attractive format; presenting data to support decision making processes.
  • Manage website content and social media engagement for the GAO led events with high level /government representatives, civil society and private sector in close coordination with the different Units of the Digital Strategy section of the Communication Division.
  • Coordinate with the Communication Division the curation and dissemination of updates of UNEP’s work to member States and other stakeholders
  • Coordinate with the Communication Division the content, production, management and updates related to the main and side events of the UN Environment Assembly and the UNEP 50th anniversary celebrations.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Programme Officer and Portfolio Manager and in close cooperation with the Administrative and Fund Management Officers, the UNV Finance Assistant will:

  • Provide support with regard to the review, analysis and preparation of the project budgets and the revisions.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Senior Protection Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Protection Assistant will:

  • Observe and respect RSD transition related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Draft Resettlement referral as per required by the RSD reviewers.
  • Keep track of vulnerable cases in need of inter-unit follow for monthly dispatch to relevant units.
  • Maintain physical files to be presented to the Technical Advisory Committee in good order until the Commissioner of Refugee Affairs’ endorsement and the subsequent decision issuance.
  • Ensure accurate and regular filing of TAC profiles and of the copy of the Notification of Recognition Letters issued to persons of concern.
  • Support the registry unit in retrieving files called for RSD interview or requiring urgent RSD review.
  • Assist in mitigating fraud by reporting suspected fraud.
  • Act as a backup to prepare the RSD schedule and ascertain relevant interpreters and rooms are available to conduct scheduled RSD interviews.
  • Act as a backup to facilitate liaison with Refugee Affairs competent authorities for the joint issuance of RSD decisions personal and other relevant documents, when appropriate.
  • Act as a back up to provide counseling to persons of concern who inquire about their cases through email or telephone call. Alert and follow-up on cases with supervisor regarding any relevant protection concerns and RSD fast-tracking. Act as a backup to handle the RSD desk.
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
