Description of task

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Office, and the direct supervision of the Unit’s coordinator, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Gather information and report on the human rights situation in a designated geographical or thematic area, including through contacts with other United Nations actors, state authorities and the community;
  • Contribute to analysis and reports on human rights concerns, violations and abuses, and the consistency of policies, programme and norms with international human rights standards and the application of economic, social and cultural rights approach;
  • Assist in the designing and the delivering of technical assistance and capacity building to government institutions and civil society with focus on non-discrimination and economic, social and cultural rights.
  • Undertake monitoring missions and reporting, use the OHCHR database to enter cases and document allegations and violations of human rights violations with focus on non-discrimination and gender;
  • Cooperate in the organization of seminars, workshops and consultations at the national and local level to promote knowledge of standards and jurisprudence in the area of economic, social and cultural rights, and how such standards are to be used to protect and promote human rights in the context of development;
  • Contribute to the development of papers, briefings, advocacy materials, presentations and methodological tools to promote awareness and understanding of economic, social and cultural rights;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Educational additional comments

Advanced University degree, preferably in law, political science, international relations or other disciplines related to human rights. A combination of relevant academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Ability to transfer knowledge and skills. Ability to take own initiatives but also to work as part of a team in an international or multicultural environment. Knowledge of technology and use of office computer applications, including working with databases, Familiarity with the political, social and security environment of Honduras, as they pertain to human rights issues.

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.
Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Senior Human Rights Advisor, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Support the SHRA in elaborating different projects and mobilization of funds aimed to strengthening the capacities of the SHRA’s Unit;
  • Work in close cooperation with the Results Groups (RGs) – bodies which are part of the management structure of the One UN in Rwanda – in the mainstreaming of human rights including gender issues, into the activities of the UNCT;
  • Support the HRA with the aim of supporting the integration of human rights into national policies;
  • Support the SHRA in mainstreaming of human rights and gender in the review of UNDAP and CCA;
  • Assist the SHRA in planning, implementing, and evaluating trainings and human rights promotion activities in cooperation with the government, national institutions, NGOs and the UNCT;
  • Support the SHRA in the coordination of the One-UN Human Rights Task Force;
  • Support the SHRA’s Unit in the organization of training workshops and human rights days;
  • Participate in inter-agencies’ meetings on behalf of the SHRA’s Unit;
  • Perform other related duties as required by the SHRA.
