Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Senior Programme Manager or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Specialist in Development Economics will undertake the following:

a). Management of Specific Components of the Yoma ecosystem

While the annual priorities will be elaborated jointly in the team, it is anticipated that the UNV will focus on all economic aspects of the yoma and its operational research component. Priority issues include: the youth token and its token economics, entrepreneurial pathways for youth, developmental evaluation and operational research. Monitor work progress and ensure results are achieved according to schedule and performance standards.

b). Programme management, planning and monitoring

Support the Yoma team in on the conceptualization, drafting and finalization of programme and project proposals. Elaborate monitoring systems and draft progress and end project reports. Stay engaged in the latest research outcomes relevant to Yoma. Maintain an evidence base to guide the learning and iterating of the Yoma journey. Participate in strategic programme discussion across various areas to ensure the continued relevance of programme interventions. on the planning of education programmes. Establish specific goals, objectives, strategies and implementation plans for the sector using results-based planning terminology and methodology (RBM).

c) . Advisory services and technical support

Provide technical advice to the Yoma team and key counterparts on issues related to development economics, youth employability and evaluation/research/data. Operate data analysis where required. Participate in strategic discussions to influence policy and agenda setting for enhancing youth empowerment, participation, relational wellbeing and livelihoods.

d). Communication, advocacy, networking and partnership building

Build and strengthen strategic partnerships through networking and advocacy with

local/national governments, UN system agency partners, donors, internationally recognized institutions, NGOs, funding organizations, research institutes and private sector to reinforce cooperation and/or pursue opportunities to support the development of the Yoma ecosystem. Lead on the communication elements in yoma with a particular focus on youth centric and relevant communication.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Head of Sub Office or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Associate Supply Officer will:

  • Prepare plans for delivery of relief items according to operational needs.
  • Apply UNHCR's procurement strategy when planning for purchase of important commodities and services.
  • Through regular physical verification of Property, Plant and Equipment (PPE) establish their status, propose old and obsolete PPE for disposal and plan for the arrival of replacement items.
  • Contributing within the Multifunctional Team to identify partners, in particular for supply chain projects, based on objectives, priorities, strengths and resources of the partner and/or contractor, according to criteria consistent with UNHCR rules and regulations.
  • Resolve difficulties in the local supply chain by finding solutions to problems and bottlenecks, and provide regular reports on supply chain activities, the status of requests and the availability of items in the supply chain.
  • Ensure timely customs clearance of consignments and manage storage of goods according to "best practices" and UNHCR rules and regulations.
  • Maintain an efficient system for the release, distribution and redeployment of goods.
  • Coordinate transportation and distribution of relief items.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records on logistical activities and provide timely reports and updates both periodically and on request.
  • Coordinate activities of implementing partners and/or contractors performing supply related activities and ensure that they understand and adhere to relevant UNHCR rules and procedures.

  • Through regular physical verification of PPE establish their status.
  • Propose old and obsolete PPE for disposal and plan for arrival of replacement items.
  • Evaluate purchase requisitions to ensure that specifications, delivery dates and all other requirements are in order.
  • Draft and dispatch quotation requests and/or tenders assist in the evaluation of offers and draft bid-tabulations and prepare proposals for award of contracts to the Committee on Contracts.
  • Prepare Purchase Orders and send confirmations, requests for inspection and other correspondence;
  • Monitor the manufacture/transport of ordered goods to ensure timely delivery.
  • Analyze matters relating to procurement activities and deliver information on all procurement activities within area of responsibility. Provide guidance and advice on UNHCR procurement policies and procedures to support and assist requesting sections.
  • Implement effective asset and fleet management that regularly monitors the asset/fleet pool, saves cost and safeguards the investment of the organization including receipt, inspection, registration and marking of new PPE, and organization of the physical verification of PPE.

Description of task

Technical Advice

Description of task

Description of task

le/la Volontaire des Nations Unies effectuera les tâches suivantes :

  • Contribuer aux analyses sur la situation politique, sociale et économique du pays pour nourrir la préparation de documents de politiques et de stratégies nationales, pour le Bureau de pays du PNUD et le Système du SNU;
  • Fournir des conseils techniques pour soutenir le dialogue avec les partenaires nationaux sur le développement et la mise en œuvre des programmes liés notamment à la gouvernance ;

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Field Engineer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Performing and coordinating all tasks related to generator installations in the mission including new generators and allied works; large capacity generators to form complete power generating stations, identifying sites and advising on platforms and generator houses in various locations through the mission area;
  • Ensuring that the generator installations/works/maintenance meet the safety standards in accordance with international codes and regulations;
  • Carrying out scheduled routine maintenance, emergency repairs, and overhauling of generators (static/mobile), including the installation of auxiliary fuel systems, such as main tanks, transfer pump, and filters;
  • Checking / calculating accurate requirement of electrical loads for proper sizing of generators; analyzing and correcting distortions on loads and balancing the loading on all three phases of three-phase generators; trouble-shooting the causes of load imbalance and providing solutions;
  • Performing surveys, preparing technical reports, drawings, and material quantities for operations/maintenance materials, and carry out physical check of all received spares;
  • Recording and reporting periodically the POL (Petrol Oil and Lubricant) consumption against the power generation to ensure compliance with UN standards.
  • Carrying out generator synchronisation works and ensuring the generators are well synchronised to minimise the fuel consumption/maintenance per power plant;
  • Coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating all tasks performed by a contractor to ensure compliance with the Operation and Maintenance schedule and the generators manufacture guidance.
  • Ensuring all contractors and staff under his supervision are complying with UNMISS waste management and environmental policy.
  • Preparing & submitting design for approval for simple installations, preparing material specifications for the purpose of raising requisitions for new power plant;
  • Planning well in advance to provide yearly / quarterly lists of demand of spare parts for diesel engines, alternators, and control panels as well as necessary tools and equipment;
  • Monitoring tools/equipment and spare parts inventory; and adequate supply of spare parts for routine scheduled maintenance, as well as maintaining log books, maintenance records, and spare parts’ consumption records to ensure the use of the spare parts in most productive/economical manner;
  • Liaising with Electro-Mechanical Engineer for expert advice on generator works, and Electrician regarding electrical matters and other engineering sub-units for generator works;
  • Providing instructions/guidance on end-use care and servicing of generator sets;
  • Training users for proper operation, upkeep, and general maintenance of generators;
  • Coordinating with outside agencies appointed to enhance the unit’s maintenance capabilities;
  • Providing input for data entry in the asset control database immediately after receipt, repairs/overhaul, transfer, and disposal of generators;
  • Managing, supervising, and delegating tasks to unit’s personnel;
  • Building capacity through coaching, mentoring, and formal on-the-job training of national staff and counterparts;
  • Performing other related duties, as required.

Description of task

Under the oversight of the Chief of Protection, Transition and Reintegration Section or his/her designate, and the direct supervision of the Section’s Information Analysis and Reporting team lead, the UN Volunteer’s duties will include:

  • Prepare, edit, and disseminate information in the form of regular reports, incident reports, threat assessments, briefing notes, incident/trend analysis, scenario papers, area profiles and risk mapping among others;
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting on protection of civilians, return, reintegration, stabilization, recovery, and other related transition issues, including daily reports and weekly updates, integrated situational analysis, and briefing materials, which support decision-making, policy development and planning by the senior management of the Section and the Mission leadership;
  • Develop and manage information analysis processes and tools, such as the Section’s daily and weekly reports and updates, as well as inputs to Secretary-General’s reports;
  • Represent the Section at working-level meetings and fora within the Mission as well as with external partners;
  • Draft code cable inputs concerning Mission reporting on protection of civilians; return and reintegration of IDPs; and Quick Impact Projects;

Description of task

Volunteer Management Support:
