Description of task

Bajo la supervisión del Jefe de Supervivencia Infantil y Desarrollo Infantil o de la persona que designe, el o la voluntario/a tendra las siguientes tareas:

  1. Asistencia técnica en los temas de salud, nutrición, DIPI y WASH, particularmente en relación con donantes, con énfasis en aquellos relacionados a la respuesta a la pandemia por el COVID-19:
  • Brindar asistencia técnica en la preparación de notas conceptuales y propuestas a donantes en los temas de salud y nutrición adolescente, salud materno neonatal, nutrición materno infantil, desarrollo infantil temprano y WASH.
  • Preparar revisiones de información disponible y análisis de situación sobre problemáticas específicas relacionadas a la preparación y ejecución de propuestas.
  • Apoyar la preparación de términos de referencia para procesos de selección de servicios, consultorías y convenios requeridos para la implementación de los proyectos.
  • Edición final de informes, evaluaciones o estudios realizados por el área para publicación y para publicación en revistas académicas.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Social Policy Specialist, the national UN Volunteer Economic and Fiscal Expert will provide technical support for UNICEF Brazil on economic and fiscal policy analysis, with focus on public budgeting and financing for children and adolescents.

This work will entail the following:

  • Review and analysis of macro-economic and fiscal tendencies, including
    • existing and potential fiscal space as well as sustainability of such fiscal space;
    • efficiency and effectiveness of increased spending for children and adolescents;
    • macroeconomic and fiscal feasibility analysis.

  • Analysis and elaboration of summary briefs and other material on economic and fiscal trends for child-related public budget allocation including for subnational levels of the Brazilian federative system, including:
    • Briefing notes and presentations for technical internal and external discussions;
    • Analysis of existing national budget policies, social expenditures and investments in social policies for children and adolescents in Brazil
    • Analysis of existing ‘allocation and operational’ effectiveness and efficiency of direct/indirect public allocations for children and adolescents;
    • Analysis of the overall economic and financial situation of Brazil, ensuring a child-responsive analytical lens, to identify available and/or potential fiscal space for sustainable spending on social policies;
    • Analysis of existing national legal framework and macro level policies, fiscal policies, budget planning, formulation, execution, reporting, auditing and monitoring.

  • Support elaboration of guidelines and knowledge products on prioritization of children and adolescents in public budgeting processes.

  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Description of task

Under direct supervision of the Director of the assigned Office, the Programme Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

  1. Act as the programme/project focal point of the Office:
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates programmes/projects;
  • Monitors and analyses programme/project development and implementation at all stages, including the analysis of implementation difficulties and initiating remedial action;
  • Provides periodic progress reports on the programmes/projects’ implementation, including fund utilisation;
  • Review, prepare and provide inputs to relevant documents and reports related to programmes/projects;

  1. Provide substantive/technical support to the Office:
  • Researches, analyses, and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
  • Assists in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies;
  • Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyses and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions;
  • Organizes & prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc;
  • Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc;
  • Initiates and coordinates outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities;
  • Provide logistical and other types of support in the running of the meetings/workshops/conferences etc…of the Office.

Description of task

Do you have experience implementing IT and telecoms systems? Do you want to work with the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide? If yes, this is your opportunity to join the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

Under the supervision of the Head of Support Services the IT Officer will deliver efficient and effective IT and Telecommunications (TC) services, contributing to sound, innovative solutions that enable staff to deliver food assistance to beneficiaries, in line with WFP’s strategy.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):


1. Contribute to the development of plans and budgets, and manage the deployment of IT/TC systems aligned with business needs, in accordance with WFP corporate standards.
2. Monitor and maintain IT/TC systems and networks, ensuring appropriate data security and access controls considering both local and wide area network issues; and supporting users to get maximum benefits from them.
3. Install and configure new computer hardware for improving and upgrading system
performance: contribute to technology upgrades as required.
4. Contribute to technical specifications and tender documents that support the procurement of IT/TC equipment and services at minimum cost, in line with WFP rules and regulations.

5. Collate and analyse data to contribute to the preparation of accurate reports on IT/TC activities, investments and costs, identifying ideas to increase cost-efficiencies where possible.
6. Maintain and develop technical expertise and understanding of industry developments.
7. Provide advice to managers and users, understanding and resolving issues, and ensuring IT policies, procedures, systems and tools are correctly applied to support them.
8. Guide and supervise more junior staff, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with more complex analysis and queries.
9. Contribute to the capability building of staff through the review and/or design of appropriate training programs aimed at developing skills/knowledge in IT and Telecommunications.
10. Coordinate with other UN agencies in order to align activities and maximise possibilities of interagency collaboration in the field of IT and TC.
11. Interact effectively with internal and external colleagues and user groups to understand their needs and provide appropriate technical support.
12. Follow standard emergency preparedness and contingency planning practices to ensure WFP is able to maintain basic IT services and/or quickly respond and deploy resources to affected areas at the onset of a crisis.
