The UNV will be based in Kampala County and travel to the different programme sites when and if needed. Under the direct supervision of the M&E Officer CSD, the national UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

1. Ensure the collection, supply and exchange of information supportive to UNICEF programme as it pertains to COVID-19 response

2. Ensure the analysis of data and information for UNICEF programme as it pertains to COVID-19 response;

3. Monitor the COVID-19 key indicators (management and programme) and management reports are collected, analyzed and made available to management and the Country Management Team.

4. Support the reporting on COVID-19 related updates externally and internally (to UNICEF Global, regional, Uganda Country Office)

5. Strengthen local UNICEF office IM/GIS tools.

6. Support in the documentation of lessons learned and remaining challenges

Bachelor degree or equivalent

University degree in Social Sciences, Economics, Medicine or Public Health

· Minimum of two years of experience with implementation of Information Management;

· Proven record of engagement in Monitoring and Evaluation, including tool development and implementation of regular monitoring and evaluation activities;

· Previous experience in Programmes related to Child Survival and Development in international organisations, government as well as NGO partners at different levels.

Under the overall supervision of the Head of RCO and direct supervision of the Development Coordination Officer (Data Management, Monitoring & Reporting), the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Undertakes empirical analysis, data mining and visualization to assist the RC and UNCT relating to the COVID impact
  • Monitor, analyze and synthesize developments with regards to the COVID socio economic impact which will contribute to the Socio Economical Recovery Framework (SERF).
  • Research, collect, analyze and edit documents and data related to evidence of impact of actions from the UN in line with SDG
  • Support the preparations of effective presentations, and factsheets to convey messages using charts, maps, infographics and tables;
  • Support the RCO in developing and managing the IM tools including dashboards, mailing system, repositories, calendar of meetings and financial tracking tool;
  • Provide support in administration of the UN INFO platform for planning, monitoring and reporting
  • Provide technical support to the inter-agency result groups during planning and reporting on the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework
  • Support in developing data collection tools
  • Support in capacity building of staff on use of information management tools and products
  • Actively participate in meetings for the IM-Data Group and Monitoring, Evaluation and Advisory Group
  • Perform any other related duties as requested by the Head of RCO and UNCT.
Master degree or equivalent
  • Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science; Social Science or related field; multidisciplinary educational background is an asset

  • Experience working with data visualization tools (i.e. Microsoft Power BI or Tableau) a plus;
  • Experience working with GIS software’s (i.e. ArcGIS) a plus
  • Ability to analyse results information by triangulating quantitative and qualitative data and evidence;

  • Experience in data compilation, analysis and visualization
  • Demonstrated interested and experience in UN coordination;

Candidate age: between 18 and 29 throughout the entire duration of their assignment. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Chief of the Population and Social Section or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Statistical Support Officer will:

  • Assist with the implementation of the Get Every One in the Picture programme activities, in particular as it related to technical assistance to countries and preparations for the Second Ministerial Conference on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific
  • Support the project staff with review of analysis of CRVS processes in selected member countries
  • Assist national CRVS stakeholders to improve their production of vital statistics
  • Coordinate events, including webinars, meetings, and other project activities;
  • Facilitate professional, clear and timely communication with partners and stakeholders, as required to ensure seamless implementation of activities and events planning tasks and activities.
  • Assist in the creation of knowledge products that detail lessons learnt and best practices in civil registration and vital statistics in the region.
  • Participate in meetings of the Regional Steering Group on CRVS and the regional CRVS Partnership and assist with writing meeting minutes;
Master degree or equivalent

Advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant area, e.g. Statistics, Demography or Sociology or a related area; a first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

  • At least 12 months of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in statistics or demography, or other relevant areas; experience with civil registration and vital statistics is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
  • Experience with using R or other statistical software is required;
  • Good oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity with or interest in volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
