Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of WEE Team Lead or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Gender Officer & Coordinator will:

  • Thoroughly familiarize her/himself with the gender dynamics of South Sudan in order to enable the UN Women office, the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) and the humanitarian clusters to develop a sound understanding of the prevailing gender situation, and take informed decisions on integrating gender in planning and operations;

  • Provide high-level and technical capacities in planning and coordination to the HCT;

  • Ensure that Gender Equity and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) is integrated into the Humanitarian Programming Cycle (HPC), the Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO), the Strategic Response Plan (SRP), Flash and Consolidated Appeal processes, and other relevant strategic planning instruments/processes;

  • Engage with clusters and ensure that gender is appropriately integrated system-wide across all the clusters;

  • Mobilize local NGOs and Government authorities to engage in coordination, planning and programming;

  • Engage in discussions with potential partners in the country, including embassies or other inter-governmental organizations, in order to mobilize resources locally and generate interest at more upstream level in funding UN Women activities;

  • Contribute to concept and proposal development in gender, livelihood, and other UN Women thematic areas.

  • Contribute to the gap analysis in the areas of livelihoods, protection and GBV and Humanitarian response in the work location

  • Contribute to the design of capacity building materials and effectively implement the trainings at all levels

  • Manages the day-to-day livelihood activities, including activity finances as per UN Women financial regulations.

  • Prepare weekly and monthly work plans and ensure work plans are implemented as per the approved Annual work plan.

  • Monitor and document UN Women’s livelihood, protection and humanitarian work as directed by the Programme Specialist.

  • Prepare/contribute to weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual, donor and other reports

  • Represent UN Women in state meetings and other stakeholder meetings in the state.

  • Contribute and actively participate in a regular sector meetings within UN Women and at district level

  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Bachelor degree or equivalent

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, e.g. gender studies, social sciences, agriculture or development studies.

Gender equality and the advancement of women

The incumbent must be a dynamic, multi-functional person, who supports UN Women with professionalism, dedication and client orientation, and who must be willing both to work on programmatic/substantive aspects and to provide operational/logistical services. The following qualifications are required:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, e.g. gender studies, social sciences, agriculture or development studies.

  • At least 2-3 years of relevant professional experience in coordination, planning, integration, advocacy for/in gender equality and women’s empowerment; experience in humanitarian settings and with humanitarian clusters required;

  • Extensive technical knowledge regarding gender in humanitarian action, GEWE, GBV, such as humanitarian planning and implementation instruments and processes, would be a strong asset;

    experience with training and facilitation (including participatory approaches), project development and management, monitoring and evaluation, human rights-based approaches, capacity development approaches, are all assets;

    Culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members and local authorities;

  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;

  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;

  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;

  • Fluency in spoken and written English knowledge of Arabic is an advantage;

  • valid national driver’s license and proven ability to drive manual gear 4x4 over rough terrain;

    Ability to perform duties under stress and in insecure, isolated and potentially hostile environments;

  • Sound security awareness;

  • Have affinity with or interest in women’s and gender issues, humanitarian action, refugee work, post-conflict or natural disaster situations, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

Minimum age: 35 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Health Manager or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Medical Doctor will:

  1. Clinical Duties:

  • Undertakes day-to-day clinical duties, e.g. walk-in clinic, emergencies, stabilization of critical patients,etc,
  • Overall supervision, management, coordination clinical operations of the Fever Clinic, Isolation ward,etc, during the outbreak/pandemic;
  • Establish the health protocol at the level of dedicated quarantine establishments for UN Staff (Humanitarian Corridor…) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health;Monitor UN personnel placed in quarantine (Humanitarian corridor etc);
  • Clinically monitor suspect cases 19 and sampling;
  • Launch investigation about the context of contamination by SARS-CoV-2 of contaminated staff and dependents in order to identify the main contaminating factors and put in place the appropriate measures;
  • Collaborate closely with the dedicated FUNHECE Polyclinic for the management of confirmed cases: constitution of a pool of specialists, clinical follow-up of positive cases treated at home, hospitalized cases, evaluation of cases for EVASAN;
  • Ensure the epidemiological investigation of confirmed cases, list closely contacts and follow them up;
  • Follow up and tracking of the positive cases and direct contacts;
  • Support the management of positive or suspected COVID-19 cases in line with standard case management protocols;
  • Undertake day-to-day occupational health duties: pre-placement and periodic medical examinations prepare UN staff for travelling providing immunizations, malaria prophylaxis, travel kits, etc; unless otherwise advice by the UN Health Manager;
  • Refers staff to outside specialists as necessary;
  • Follows-up with outside specialists;
  • Provides health education and health promotion programs, with special emphasis to the prophylaxisof the relevant diseases of the outbreak;
  • Organizes/Participates in addressing work environment and occupational health issues.
  1. Medico Administrative Duties: (Depending of the Duty Station, these tasks normally belong to the UN Health Manger):

  • Advises Administration on medical standards for recruitment, sick leave, and medical evacuations/repatriations as per United Nations policies and guidelines;
  • Participates in drafting and implementation of business continuity and crises preparedness plans for the duty station/mission;
  • Manages/Supports day-to-day operations;
  • Deputizes for the UN Health Manager during his/her absence, when applicable.
  1. Supervisory Administration of the Fever Clinic:

  • Supervises laboratory technicians’ nurses and medical administrative staff; ensures availability ofdrugs and medical supplies and proper functioning of medical equipment;
  • Ensures appropriate training programs are implemented in order to maintain and develop the medical capabilities (e.g., health education, dedicated training related to the pertaining outbreak) health education, health promotion and prevention, first aid and CPR);
  • Organize the shift roster to ensure coverage of the fever clinic 24/7.
  1. General:

Performs other related duties as required. Work implies frequent interaction with the following:

  • Staff at large
  • Staff within work unit

  • Residency/internship/extensive experience in Emergency Medicine, Trauma care, ICU, Surgery,

  • There is a need for recruiting General Practitioners who have continuous medical education and experience (not just formal education).
  • Knowledge in the following continuous medical education and certification is highly desirable as this experience; will ensure that training can be given to staff members as well as experience in stabilization and referral of medical and trauma emergencies:
  1. Advanced Trauma life Support (ATLS);
  2. Basic Cardiac Life support (BCLS;
  3. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS);
  4. Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS);
  5. Knowledge in clinical and occupational, tropical/travel medicine and emergency responses;
  6. Aeromedical evacuations;
  7. Ability to provide first aid training to staff members
