Under the guidance and direct supervision of the UNESCO Education for Health and Well-being (EHW) Team Leader, the UN volunteer will work with regional and national colleagues to deliver on the following tasks:

Communication Strategy

  • Develop a communications and advocacy strategy for the securing of the ESA Commitment beyond 2020;
  • Form linkages with communications personnel in partner organisations (ESA Commitment Technical Coordinating Committee) to strengthen communications;

Communication tools

  • Repackage and popularize the ESA Commitment evaluation report into different products tailored to specific audiences;
  • Develop key messages and compile advocacy tools for use by UNESCO country colleagues
  • Supervise the development, designing, production and distribution of ESA Commitment branding and campaign materials;
  • Prepare ESA communications materials, as relevant for different audiences such as presentations; newsletter, and opinion pieces.

Young People Today

  • Work closely with the UNESCO Digital CSE Officer in the EHW team to re-orient the Young People Today website and social media platform towards advocating for the ESA Commitment beyond 2020;
  • Update and maintain media lists and press contact information;

Media Liaison

  • Monitor and compile press clippings and reports on the ESA Commitment advocacy efforts across the region;
  • Help develop and distribute press releases, programming notes and media alerts
  • Manage ESA Commitment-related communication with key stakeholders including government agencies, UN and RECs;

Technical Support

  • Assist countries with showcasing their advocacy efforts on the ESA Commitment in mainstream and alternative media platforms;
  • Assist in preparing all necessary presentations for team members and partners as required;
  • Provide other communications support leading up to the affirmation of the ESA Commitment in December 2021.
Bachelor degree or equivalent
  • A minimum of Bachelors’ Degree in, Communications, Public Relations, Events Management or related field; or 5 years additional years of experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree will be considered.

  • 3 years’ experience managing the communications component of a campaign or project is required.
  • Ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively orally. A writing sample will be required as proof.
  • Must be able to tele work and report at UNESCO Johannesburg offices when required

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Team Leader and/or Head of the Unit or her/his designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Infrastructure Administrator will act as and perform the following duties and tasks:

  • Administrator – The incumbent is responsible for the continuous operation of the Infrastructure in ICC Data Centers and partners organizations. The incumbent is responsible for managing and maintaining SAN Storage, Backup and Virtualization Infrastructures’ systems, standard configurations, and enhancements. Installation and upgrade as well as assisting with the resolution of incidents and problems, and fulfils users request as a part of ISO 20000 established processes.

  • Deployment Team Member – The incumbent is responsible for final testing and deployment Infrastructure and underlying services, and solutions as well as all related technical documentation. She or he may participate in vulnerability and remediation and technical review related to ICT security initiatives.

  • Operational Support – The incumbent is responsible of providing on-going support at the T2 to ICC Infrastructure environment and related services and will participate in the automation projects and tasks for ICC and Partners. In addition, the incumbent will manage the backup clients, schedules and retentions; monitor and evaluate the performance of virtualization, storage and backup services. Coordinate the replacement of failed Backup, Storage & SAN components, and service restoration.

Required Experience: Infrastructure administrator with 5+ years of proved hands-on experience working on market leader solutions on SAN storage (DELL EMC, HPE, Netapp, Cisco, Brocade etc.), Virtualization (VMware or Hyper-V or OVM/KVM) and backup solutions (EMC, Veeam, Veritas, etc.) and good understanding of enterprise networking (Ethernet and TCP/IP) is a plus. Daily activities include monitoring, configuring and troubleshooting.

Essential qualifications:

  • Proved experience administering and troubleshooting storage arrays from different vendors (i.e., HPE 3PAR, DELL Compellent and Netapp, etc.)
  • Good understanding and knowledge of storage technologies (Fabric switches, VSANs, WWPNs, NPIV, multi-pathing, Fiber channel, iSCSI, etc.)
  • Sound technical knowledge of storage replication technologies
  • Hands-on experience administering fiber channel fabrics (Cisco MDS and Brocade)
  • Good knowledge of VMware 6.x infrastructure including ESXi, vCenter, and Horizon View
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Hyper-V and SCVMM is a plus

Required Experience: UNICC is looking for highly qualified and motivated Platform Administrators to support the global operations of platform services hosted at UNICC Data Centre’s and partners. The selected candidate will join the T2 platform operations team of UNICC.

Essential qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with Windows/Linux Server Administration and systems support in large environments.
  • Extensive knowledge of Windows Server patching technologies as well as best practices using WSUS, SCCM and SCOM monitoring
  • Good understanding of Directory Services components, such as Active Directory, GPO, FSMO roles, DNS and DHCP.
  • Knowledge of Linux systems (Red Hat, Oracle Enterprise Linux, CentOS)
  • Experience with the common Linux service (Apache, MySQL, SMB, postfix, …)
  • Good knowledge of PowerShell and scripting
