Under the direct supervision of the Head of office and in coordination with staff from the Population and Development Branch at UNFPA-HQ, the International UN Volunteer will:

  • Learn contemporary technical methods of assessing data quality and completeness of civil registration data, adjusting civil registration data to account for coverage and content error, and producing vital statistics from civil registration data and other resources;
  • Support Country Office in providing technical support to key partners (National Institute of Statistics, Ministry of Interior- civil registration Office, Public Health Institute) and in enhancing their vital statistics production and usage capabilities
  • Build on the analysis already made to support CO define priority areas of focus during the assignment period
  • Contribute to the development of capacity building materials, tools and worked examples, to support staff of national counterparts such as statistical officers and civic registration.
  • Contribute to the facilitation of capacity building workshops, webinars and data laboratories for officials from National Statistics Offices and civil registration authorities;
  • Conduct statistical and demographic analysis, using standard statistical software packages (e.g. R, Stata or SPSS) to support data processing, assessment and analysis of civil registration data
  • Contribute to routine and ad-hoc discussions and meetings within UNFPA on civil registration, vital statistics and legal identity;

Under the direct supervision of the WASH Manager the UN WASH Specialist will undertake the following tasks:

  1. Provide technical support to UNICEF Kampala office to manage the KOICA funded WASH in School programme in Karamoja effectively and efficiently. Specifically,
    • Support the WASH Unit to undertake procurement for the WASH in school Infrastructure in a timely and quality manner;
    • Collect and prepare WASH in school programme reports for the donor including monitoring and reviewing budgets for the programme;
    • Co-ordinate and support exchange visits and learning events between the Uganda programme team and Korean counterparts;
    • Conduct regular field monitoring visit to project sites in Karamoja region;
    • Assist in the preparation of technical documents relevant for the WASH in schools that could be used for the visibility for the program
    • Coordination with UNICEF Uganda Office and KOICA Office in Kampala.

  1. Provide technical support to the Moroto Zonal Office to develop capacities related to WASH in schools.
  • Ensure the availability of accurate, complete and up-to-date information required for effective implementation of the KOICA funded WASH in schools programme;
  • Participate in inter-sectoral collaboration with other programme colleagues, Education, Health, Nutrition and Local Government to identify priority needs and appropriate strategies;
  • Undertake support supervision of the programme activities in the field.

  1. Support the implementation of a comprehensive water, Sanitation and hygiene programme in Karamoja region.
  • Strengthen the knowledge of WASH teams by providing support to implementation of the WASH in schools interventions with focus on adolescent and disability aspects of WASH programming;
  • Assist in enhancing programme efficiency and effectiveness through evidence-based approaches and implementation follow-up.
  1. Document results and best-practices and enhance knowledge management.
  • Document results and lessons learned from WASH programme implementation and promote knowledge sharing among counterparts and WASH stakeholders;
  • Participate in preparation and delivery of WASH in Schools technical outcomes during fundraising, scoping, development and implementation phases of WASH initiatives.

  1. Provide support to KOICA and UNICEF to manage the local training, invitational training in Korea, and reporting in Korean.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Senior CBI Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer for Cash Based Interventions will:

  • Manage the use, maintenance and technical support of databases used in the cash-based interventions.
  • Generate statistical reports based on the standard reporting formats and ad-hoc reports, charts and tables as required by the management.
  • Prepare and administer accurate lists of beneficiaries for the regular assistance through bank ATM/IRIS system in line with the procedures established by the office.
  • Assist in developing and administering UNHCR Regular Cash based Intervention database.
  • Assist in the monthly reconciliation and refund process for the cash assistance project.
  • Assist in preparing detailed reports and breakdown of the cash assistance provided to the refugees.
  • Cross-check databases to ensure that all beneficiaries are active cases.
  • Keep cash lists updated and free of duplications and ensure delivery of cash assistance to beneficiaries in a timely manner.
  • Maintain relationships with partners to facilitate the flow of information between databases,

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the GBV Prevention and Response Team Leader or her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Communications and Knowledge Management Specialist will perform the following key and specific functions/responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the implementation of the GBV Advocacy, Prevention and Response Project Communications and Knowledge Management strategy;
  • Lead the development of a well-maintained knowledge management system that gathers, extracts, packages, maintains, distributes and continually updates evidence, data and knowledge on GBV for internal and external audiences;
  • Lead in drafting and editing Gender and GBV communication materials and supporting communication initiatives;
  • Coordinate with field staff, the GBV Sub Cluster Coordinator and the GBV Information Manager to track, analyse and disseminate data on GBV in the COVID context
  • In close collaboration with the Operational Research Team and the M&E team, identify and collect existing and emerging evidence resources to inform ongoing project implementation;
  • Coordinate regularly with the Asia Pacific Regional Office (APRO) Gender and GBV Team on identifying and sharing evidence resources to contribute to innovative approaches to the project’s implementation, including capturing the effect of COVID on GBV incidence and service provision;
  • Engage actively with project implementing partners, provincial UNFPA staff and beneficiaries to collect good practices, lessons learned, and identify strategies for utilizing collected feedback to improve activity implementation, including capturing the COVID context-related best practice on service provision during a pandemic;
  • Support the Programme Specialist, GBV in Kathmandu and Programme Analysts, GBV in the implementation of community outreach events, ensuring COVID-related precautions and regulations are followed;
  • Prepare Newsletters, Case Studies, infographics, and Fact Sheets for wider distribution among partners, donors, government partners, and stakeholders. Coordinate with the advocacy and communication officer to promote GBVPR through UNFPA Nepal’s social media and digital platforms including website;
  • Conduct field missions to monitor communication and community outreach activities, identify the area of improvements and gather information and human stories for advocacy and communication materials;
  • Support and document field visits and prepare meeting reports;
  • In close coordination with the Communications Officer in Kathmandu, establish close working relationships with TV, radio and news agencies to promote and disseminate UNFPA’s mandate, goals, activities, and principles;
  • Assist with the organization of activities related to GBVPR project and provide general support for planning and project administrative activities as needed;

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.

  • Conducting legal research and analysis about UN rules and regulations (including those concerning claims against the Mission), SC Resolutions, peace agreements and Mission’s compliance with international and national law;

  • Monitor and analyze current events, public opinion and press, identify issues and trends, and advise management on appropriate action/response. Draft analytical reports on the humanitarian situation in the area, as requested;
  • Research, report, write and produce text stories, audio and video reports. Prepare news reports, features and materials on main events and issues affecting humanitarian and transitional issues in the DRC;
  • Liaise with provincial, national and international media where necessary to provide them with relevant humanitarian information and facilitate media coverage of needs, constraints and humanitarian response. Prepare / conduct activities such as "press cafés", field visits, or other activities specifically dedicated to the media;
