Description of task Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Chief of Justice and Correction Section or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Judicial Affairs Officer will: Contribute to the development of the rule of law strategic plans and serve as primary reporting officer for the Section. Contribute to the coordination of the section's activities and assist in the day-to-day coordination of key activities with other mission components (e.g., human rights, political affairs, police, gender) and UN entities. Draft budget documents, planning documents, talking points, speeches, reports, etc. for the Section. Implements legal and judicial programmes of the work unit and advises on the relevant legal frameworks, institutional reform of the judiciary, prosecutions and law enforcement, and legal representation or aid. Establish and maintain excellent working relations with the police, the prosecution and prison services, the judiciary and other Government officials as well as with the respective mission components; Conduct research and analysis and provide expert advice and technical assistance to national counterparts on legal and judicial systems, including on legal and institutional reform; Participate in the mapping and assessment of the judicial and legal systems, with on the functioning of the judiciary in the North of the country as well as in factors in rule of law progress in the field (rule of law indicators); When working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-)governmental counterparts, the incumbent should set aside dedicated time for training, coaching, mentoring and capacity development. Description of task Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Innovation and Technology Unit within the Field Technology Section, the Innovation and Technology Assistant will be required to operate as part of the Innovation and Technology Unit team supporting the Mission. Major responsibilities include: Oversee and manage Commercial Contracts for Surveillance and Protection Technology; Assist with spare parts management for Surveillance and Protection Technology; Oversee and manage manufacturer repairs and maintenance activities for Surveillance and Protection Technology; Ensure that Issue and Incident registers are properly maintained by the support personel for Surveillance and Protection Technology; Assist with drafting SOPs and various correspondence; Research and evaluate new technologies in the context of the Mission Mandate; Follow-up with Procurement Section and MOVCON on status of acquisitions and shipping; Travel to other field stations/locations as and when required; Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments: University degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in Telecommunications/Information Technology related field. Relevant Military training/certification acceptable. Required experience: 60 Months Experience remark: A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience with Surveillance and Protection Technology, preferably in a military/law enforcement context/environment. Language skills: English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent Area of expertise: Telecommunications systems, Other information and telecommunications technology experience Area of expertise details: Essential Technical Skills: Working knowledge of geographic information principles and data analysis tools, Very strong computer literacy with word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets and databases. Description of task Under the direct supervision of the Geospatial Information Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: Design, produce and update thematic and operational maps for Mission clients. Process and maintain geographic data and metadata for the Mission’s geodatabases and map products. Assist in data validation and quality control of GIS products. Assist in gathering requirements and project specifications. Assist in printing and dissemination of maps as required. Conduct GPS field survey. Conduct advanced geoprocessing, including spatial and image analysis Assist in providing training (GPS, QGIS, Google Earth, Drone) to Military, Police and Civilian components. Travel to other field stations/locations as and when required. Assist in operating mini-UAS (drones) for data collection, compilation and ingestion to improve mapping products. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments: University degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in Geography, Cartography, Remote Sensing, Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), or related fields. Required experience: 60 Months Experience remark: A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in the field of geospatial information (e.g. geospatial information applications, geospatial database management, geospatial/terrain analysis, cartography and mapping, image processing, GPS and surveying) or related fields is required.
