Within the terms of the organization’s delegated authority, and under the direct supervision of Motor Transport Officer (MTO) the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Complete maintenance and repairs of all United Nations Heavy Vehicles as well as MHE/Engineering equipment operated by MONUSCO in assigned area in accordance with the manufacturer’s specs and to the highest standard.

• Assist in workshop management on a broader scale in all related Transport sub-units in supervisory capacity if need be.

• Be familiar with, able to operate and understand error code data from Vehicle Electronic Diagnostic tools. Reprogramming vehicle systems with these tools is a highly desirable ability.

• Identify spare parts from the manufacturer parts reference book.

• Ensure that all spare parts, filters, lubricants etc. required for each repair are correctly documented in the vehicle work order.

• Ensure that presence within the workshop is consistent with working hours and all inspections/repair tasks assigned are completed in a timely manner.

• Assist in recovering vehicles or repairing vehicles on-site which cannot be recovered to workshop for repairs.

• Ensure the security of all equipment provided for use within the workshop area.

• Contributes to the integration of human rights in the mission’s protection of civilians (PoC) efforts and, where relevant, coordinates such efforts, including by, inter-alia, mapping and reporting protection risks, early warning, advising UN uniformed personnel on human rights issues during the conduct of their operations, and participating in or coordinating Joint Protection Team missions, as required

• Facilitate the implementation of human rights mandate in the designated area of responsibility (AOR);

• Gather information, analyse and report on the human rights situation in the designated AOR, including through close cooperation with other United Nations actors and the community;

• Follow up on individual cases and issues with authorities with the aim of stopping or preventing human rights violations or seeking remedial action by the authorities to prevent similar violations occurring in the future;

• Establish and maintain contacts with government representatives, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations, UN agencies and other partners operating in the AOR;

• Assist in conducting human rights capacity-building activities and in developing and implementing human rights training programmes;

• Contribute to and/or draft various reports, communications, briefing notes, statements or other products;

• Conduct fact-finding missions and investigations into abuses/violations of human rights or humanitarian law;

• Ensure, coordinate and supervise the timely entry of accurate and verified human rights cases into an established database; conduct quality control and deliver statistics and trend reports as required;

Under the direct supervision of the Civil Affairs Stabilization unit Coordinator, the duties of the UN Volunteers (Associate Civil Affairs Officer) will include but are not limited to the following:

• Contribute to the development, management, and monitoring/evaluation of stabilization-related projects

• Support the reinforcement of democratic governance systems at the national, provincial, and local levels; and provide mentoring and advice to State and provincial administrations to enhance local participatory security governance and to develop and strengthen civil society engagement

• Conceive and formulate project to support capacity building for local authorities and civil servants in the areas of decentralization, financing and participatory budgeting.

• Conduct confidence-building activities with communities, civil society, and authorities to consolidate participative security governance. While operations will focus in areas affected by armed conflict, Civil Affairs will continue to use its footprint to monitor and support local actors’ collaboration for security and peace

• Enhance civil society engagement to promote and support their role in advancing democratic and participative governance, as well as in managing and preventing conflicts and to foster inclusion and tolerance which gear social cohesion

• Support Civil Affairs field offices in their contribution to the operationalization of Provincial stabilization strategy and other stabilization activities

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Integrated Warehouse (IW), the duties of the Integrated Warehouse Assistant [Data and Asset Management] will include but are not limited to the following:

• Create and enforce policies for effective data management.

• Formulate techniques for quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data.

• Devise and implement efficient and secure procedures for data handling and analysis with attention to all technical aspects in Umoja.

• Implements the Environmental Guidelines and Policies in the mission;

• Supports the implementation of the Environmental Guidelines and Mission Waste Management Plan by providing technical support to field locations on request in the areas of waste management in particular;

• Prepares consolidated reports on environmental actions of all mission locations, sites and identifies problem areas to be addressed by the relevant Sections and Units within the mission.

• Reviews statements of work, contracts and services for engineering projects related to the disposal of solid waste in accordance with international, local and mission environmental standards;

• Formulates and evaluates waste procedures and projects for accuracy, soundness, feasibility and cost;

• Develops conceptual designs, feasibility studies and multi-year plans of waste management systems to be implemented in field locations;

• Prepares an environmental action plan, guidance materials and instructions aimed at achieving environmental objectives.

• Assesses existing waste management infrastructure in mission (including, but not limited to, local infrastructure) and proposes innovative technical solutions to reduce waste-related risks;

• Preparation of electrical projects documents including diagrams, sketches, calculation of requirements, bill of quantities, specifications and estimations related to the electrical and HVAC projects.

• Monitoring on site the installation of new electrical networks and systems and maintenance of existing systems by guiding, instructing and clarifying doubts to contractors, manpower, subcontractors involved in the implementation.

• Preparation of monitoring reports and reporting tools of the progress of electrical tasks on sites.

• Coordinate the above-mentioned electrical tasks with other construction works and other engineers included in the project.

• Ensure that the works meet the electrical, safety and environmental standards in accordance with international codes and regulations;

• Install and carry out scheduled periodic and emergency maintenance services on submersible and centrifugal pump stations, motors, AMF (Automatic Mains Failure) panels, lifts, car washers, water filtration and purification plants, alternators and generator control panels, generators, ACs, HVAC installation systems;

• Carry out scheduled periodic and emergency maintenance services on all overhead, underground and buildings electrical installations and equipment;

• Analyze and correct distortion on loads;

• Perform surveys and prepare technical reports; design and prepare drawing of electrical installations;

• Prepare structural calculations and specifications for aboveground and undergrounds structures in reinforced concrete, steel, wood, masonry and stone;

• Analyzes project proposals to ensure technical feasibility and to ensure that project objectives are attainable within prescribed resources;

• Preparation of monitoring reports and reporting tools of the progress of the construction activities on sites.

• Coordinate the above-mentioned tasks with other works and other engineers included in the project such as electrical engineers, water sanitation, environmental engineers.
