Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the health manger or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Nurse will:

Clinical Duties:

  • Responds to emergency calls and assists Medical Officers.

  • Ensures effective liaison between patient and private doctor, paramedics, family members, and colleagues as appropriate, documents case findings.

  • Assist to the medical officer on the management, organization and coordination of the fever clinic, including isolation ward, etc at the duty station.

  • Assist the medical officer in the follow up and tracking of the positive cases and close contacts.

  • Performs point of care diagnostic and screening tests.

  • Performs clinical assessment of patients visiting the walk-in clinic; provides care/advice accordingly or facilitates referral to the UN Medical Officer or to an outside physician, as indicated.

  • Ensures preparedness of staff travelling on missions or reassignments, including administration of appropriate vaccine, instructions on malaria prophylaxis and other travel-related ailments.

  • Assists in providing health education and health promotion programs; participates in work environment assessment with special emphasis to the prophylaxis of the relevant diseases of the outbreak.

Medico-administrative duties:

  • Assists the UN clinic team in all her/his activities as required.

  • Ensures that medical instruments are properly sterilized.

  • Ensures proper filing of medical and other records.

Evaluates, orders and maintains an efficient inventory and stock control of medications/vaccines and other medical supplies and equipment.

Master degree or equivalent

Registered Professional Nurse with master’s degree and who is a graduate of an accredited baccalaureate nursing programme (3 to 5 years). National registration and license is required.

Seven years of experience in nursing (desired area ICU/ER). UN field experience is highly desirable. Demonstrated expertise in the care of the mechanically ventilated patient, including the set up and maintenance of circuits and ventilator machines. Previous experience in humanitarian crisis and infectious diseases is highly desirable. Certification as Intensive Care Nurse or a minimum of 1 years’ experience as an Intensive Care Nurse or Emergency Room Nurse in the past 5 years. Proven experience in barrier nursing and use of PPE.

 Renforcer leurs connaissances et compréhension du concept du volontariat en lisant la documentation
mise à disposition par le programme VNU, les publications externes et prendre
activement part aux activités du programme VNU, par exemple s’impliquer dans les activités
commémoratives de la Journée internationale des Volontaires (JIV), le 5 décembre.
 Se familiariser et développer toute forme de volontariat traditionnel et/ou local au niveau du
pays d’accueil.
 Refléter le type et la nature des actions volontaires qu’ils entreprennent, y compris leur participation
dans les réflexions substantielles.
 Contribuer à la rédaction des articles sur les expériences de terrain à soumettre pour la publication

Reporting to the Civil Affairs Team Leader at the field office level, the incumbent’s responsibilities will be:

  • Maintain contact with local government authorities, political leaders, traditional leaders, religious leaders, civil society groups and business people, as well as with representatives of local and international organisations and brief them on the mandate and activities of UNMISS, if so required;
  • Provide analysis on conflict management (prevention, mitigation, resolution) including related political, security, social and economic developments, youth and gender-related issues or any other significant developments in order to identify trends within the area of responsibility (AOR), and in support of the mission’s overall protection of civilians mandate;
  • Provide support to local level peace processes;
  • Provide accurate, timely and factual daily, weekly and monthly reports on conflict management, protection of civilians and peace process activities within the area of responsibility;

Under the direct supervision of the Movement Control Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Process and finalize Cargo Manifests by mid-day, 24 hours prior to flight date;
  • Extract data from eCBS reference to backlog, and history of cargo movement;
  • Provide excellent services to our clients and make sure they are attended to in a courteous manner;
  • Ensure weekly and monthly cargo Statistics/Reports are submitted by close of business every Friday and by close of business on the last calendar date of every month;

  • Coordinate with Customs Clearance Unit or CCU reception and dispatching of cargo by DHL;
  • Ensure dangerous goods are transported in accordance with the applicable international regulations.

Under the Supervision of Chief Distribution/MovCon Section or his designated representative, the responsibilities will include:

  • Providing multi-modal support at Detachments for the movement of passengers and cargo on UN air and surface transportation assets;
  • Planning, prioritizing, coordinating and monitoring all movement tasks and responsibilities in the area of operation;
  • Coordinating with the government authorities on all passenger immigration and customs formalities required;
  • Analysing the availability of and most cost-effective transportation assets to support passenger and cargo movements in the mission;
  • Ensuring safe, efficient and economical movement support is provided to meet operational and administrative requirements of the mission;
  • Ensuring all safety procedures on UN and contracted assets are maintained and any observed hazards reported and filed for appropriate action;
  • Ensuring Dangerous Goods are transported in accordance with International Airline Transport Association Dangerous Goods Regulations;
  • Planning and coordinating troop deployments and rotations of military contingents;
  • Receiving and processing all passenger and cargo booking requests;
  • Preparing accurate passenger and cargo manifests in accordance with entitlements and ensuring loading on board the aircraft is in accordance with prevailing aviation safety standards;
  • Analysing and providing weekly and monthly Detachment statistics and reports to supervisors;
  • Ensuring proper filing and safe custody of all documents;
  • Briefing passengers on airfield regulations and international aviation safety requirements;
  • Conducting passenger check-in and weighing/measuring of cargo and luggage;
  • Ensuring that only authorized personnel are manifested and boarded on the aircraft;
  • Ensuring all manifests are accurate and complete;
  • Ensuring all luggage and cargo are delivered to consignees;
  • Coordinating flights in the sector with Air Operations Office and liaising with the aircraft’s crew to ensure proper loading of passengers and cargo including handover of manifests and other documents;
  • Arranging the movement of inbound and outbound cargo via all applicable modes of transport (air, sea, road and rail);
  • Arranging customs clearance and related documentation;
  • Ensuring cargo, including Dangerous Cargo, is loaded in accordance with International Regulations;
  • Monitoring and ensuring delivery of cargo and communicating shipping details to all concerned parties;
  • International training, mentoring and capacity building of national colleagues;Managing day to day, including the setup of, operations and supervising personnel in area of operations;
  • Performing any other related functions as requested by the supervisor.
Secondary education

Type of Degree: Completion of High School Diploma and a technical qualification in Air Transportation or Movement Control.

Under the direct supervision of Chief Technical Compliance Unit , the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Receive and verify aircrews Licenses, currency of medical certificates, proficiencies, currencies, trainings, validations, etc. for acceptance;
  • Monitor crew rotations, attendance/ hours flown, flight and duty time limitations;
  • Identify any discrepancies / omissions in the crews’ paperwork and inform the Chief for immediate action;
  • Saving crews paperwork in the shared drive and lotus notes Database;
  • Closely monitor the in-coming crews to ensure that they are not included on UNHQ “Persona Non Grata” list;
  • Assists site managers requesting visas, IDs, vehicle passes to UN compounds, with procedural explanations in relation to Aviation Section policies and procedures as required;
  • Prepare Movement of Personnel (MOPs) requests of Air Carriers’ workers for endorsement;
  • Receive from Air Carriers copies of hard Aircraft Use Reports (AUR’s) and ensure that documents (fuel slip, passenger and cargo manifest, Air Tasking Orders (ATO), etc. are attached as indicated on the AURs;
  • Process AURs and accompanying documentation in accordance with UN requirements;
  • Process monthly AirTransport Section (ATS) reports and other documents as required in a timely manner;
  • Receive invoices, receipts and other documents received from Contractors and Aviation Military Unit, check that all required documents are submitted and forward to the Budget/Accounting Unit;
  • Generate aircraft utilization statistics as required;
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chief Technical Compliance Unit.
