Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Under the direct supervision of State Engineer, the UNV Project Engineer (Civil Engineer) will undertake the following tasks:

  • Oversee the construction and maintenance of all buildings, roads and airstrips and all infrastructures within premises;
  • Update the general site layout plans as well as establish dates and intervals in order to keep the plans updated throughout the construction;
  • Prepare project programmes, preliminary designs, scope of works, preliminary cost estimates and implementation schedules for approval;
  • Update project schedules in Microsoft Project;
  • Carry out technical surveys of existing buildings, roads, airstrips, structures, installations and infrastructure;
  • Perform all inventory surveys, preliminary designs, detailed designs, material quantifications and supervision for all constructions and maintenance projects and other sites;
  • Prepare detailed design proposals comprising all architectural and engineering drawings, such as site plans, buildings and roads layout, section elevations and details, drainage systems, sewer and water network;
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and detailed time plans and follow-up schedules for approval;
  • Prepare complete project documentation for tender and construction, i.e. all architectural and engineering work drawings, descriptions, specifications, bill of quantities, etc., for approval;
  • Provide appropriate safety notifications and identification of areas and equipment hazardous to persons or property in accordance with building, roads and airstrips maintenance codes and standing regulations;
  • Travel to various locations in the area of operations to plan and monitor construction works, maintenance and repairs;
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and on-the-job training to national personnel;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Bachelor degree or equivalent
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, Architechtural Engineering or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Registered Engineer with an internationally recognised institution is desirable.
36 Months
  • Three years of active professional experience with consulting architects/engineers and an international construction business;
  • Project management experience is desirable;
  • Prince 2 or PMP Certification is desirable;
  • Proficiency in AutoCad.
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
Civil engineering and construction supervision, Other engineering and construction related experience
  • Experience in a multinational organisational environment is desirable;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to prioritise tasks and handle confidential and sensitive materials with discretion;
  • Have a valid driver’s license and a proven ability to drive a manual 4x4 vehicle;
  • Computer skills: Solid computer skills, including full proficiency in AutoCad and Revit and various MS Office applications (Excel, Word etc), other IT applications and office technology equipment;
  • Must have affinity with post-conflict situations and the UN System;
  • Sound security awareness.
