Under the direct supervision of WASH Programme manager, the National UN Youth Volunteer will provide support to the WASH officer in the section’s WASH in Schools (WinS) including:

  • Contribute to data collection and analysis for identification of schools;
  • Support in the needs’ assessment for the selected schools;
  • Support in tender document development with MoE (Ministry of Education) engineers, and take part in the proposal evaluation process;
  • Coordinate with MoE (Ministry of Education) engineers, implementing partners at schools and UNICEF WASH team to establish construction activities schedule, monitoring mechanism and reporting requirements;
  • Carry frequent field visits to schools during the rehabilitation and other construction activities and produce Bi-weekly or monthly progress report on the activity progress and work quality;
  • Support in lessons learnt documentation and help produce knowledge management materials in relation to the project;
  • Under the supervision of the WASH officer, provide technical and field support for WASH in the Host Community program including but not limited to; Climate Resilient Water Safety Plans, WASH intervention in Informal Tented Settlements, Climate Adaptation Funds;
  • Support in the generation of Knowledge Management and advocacy tools including collection of relevant information and documentation of the WASH section achievements with field visits;
  • Support the section in implementing the communication plan in event’s preparation, management, donor visits, global WASH events and weekly media reports on WASH sector news in Jordan;
  • Participate in the planning and reporting processes within the section as seen appropriate by the program officer. This includes data compilation and verification from IP managers in line with the annual workplan and reporting on progress using exiting platforms;
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Bachelor degree or equivalent

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

  • At least 1-year experience in WASH projects.
  • Basic knowledge of GIS and CAD programs (such as ArcGIS, ARCView, MapInfo, Google Earth Pro, Auto-CAD, MicroStation, and similar) is required

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Field Office, Mopti, and in close collaboration with the Chief of Communication who oversees all external communication for UNICEF Mali, the UN Volunteer will:

  • Regularly go on field trips within Mopti to collect testimonies, quotes, and photo and video stories that illustrate the situation of children and women in Mali and UNICEF’s interventions in favor of children and women, in particular the most vulnerable
  • Write compelling, talkable and audience-tailored content for social media, websites and blogs (such as unicef.org/mali and UNICEF Connect) as well as internal platforms, in support of UNICEF Mali’s advocacy and resource mobilization objectives
  • Coordinate local media activities, including with partner media and with child journalists, with a view on ensuring regular reporting on children’s issues in central Mali and supporting the increase in brand awareness for UNICEF in Mopti
  • Participate and promote UNICEF’s positions in communications and advocacy meetings with other UN agencies and humanitarian actors
  • Plan, coordinate and accompany punctual media visits to Mopti
  • Where necessary and with the guidance of the Chief of Communications, support the Chief of Field Office with advice on strategic communications in crisis-affected areas

Under the direct supervision of Child protection Specialist in Bangui, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

1. Information management system and tools development and maintenance.

  • In collaboration with emergency focal points of different partners (Child protection sub cluster), programme staff in zonal offices and the UNICEF M&E Officer design processes and flows for the collection, compilation, analysis of humanitarian data, the definition and harmonization of smart humanitarian and development indicators and targets.
  • Actively participate in the relevant meetings to collect/update child protection related information and information management.
  • Strengthening interagency child protection information management capacity at the global level
  • Improving quality of child protection coordination, specifically on Information management, at field level
  • Assist the Child Protection Section in the documentation and dissemination of case studies/good practices in the field. This may also include the drafting of human-interest stories in collaboration with external communications colleagues.

General public communications activities:

  • Produce high-quality communication products in English;
  • Research, draft and edit communication materials (articles, press releases, human interest stories, fact sheets and others) for both traditional and digital media; contribute to the qualitative aspects of production (e.g. translation, graphic design);
  • Work on the appropriate and timely dissemination of advocacy and communication materials to target audiences, and participate in the evaluation of their impact;
  • Help in the planning and organizing as well as generating public support for special events and activities to promote country programme goals;

  • Contribute to start and scale-up of an interactive communication model that gives young people a voice;

  • Monitor the implementation of the visibility plans that have been agreed with the donors;
  • Propose new innovative ideas to ensure donor visibility and donor recognition;
  • Interact with programme sections to ensure compliance with agreed donor visibility commitments
  • In collaboration with the donor relations section, provide feedback to donors on visibility activities.

Communication support:

  • Support the Communication team in its day-to-day activities, including but not limited to, contributing to outreach through organizing events and setting up activities (retreats, meetings and task forces);
  • As required, prepare background communication and advocacy materials for briefings and visits of media, goodwill ambassadors, donors, national committee representatives and other special interest groups;
  • Ensure quality, consistency, accuracy and ethics of all communication tools and materials (press releases, videos, social media posts, Human Interest Stories, Sit.Rep, Blog articles, Reports, etc.);
  • Ensure language quality in English of all communication tools and materials.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. En el marco de la autoridad delegada y bajo la supervisión del Oficial de Salud y nutrición o su representante designado, el Voluntario de la ONU llevará a cabo las siguientes tareas:

El/la UNV trabajará bajo la supervisión de la oficial de Salud, y en forma integral con el equipo de programas, en las acciones vinculadas a las estrategias de salud y nutrición, con énfasis en atención primaria de la salud, atención materno infantil, salud del adolescente y nutrición en niños y adolescentes. Además, trabajará en la respuesta a emergencias a nivel país asistiendo al punto focal de emergencias de la oficina país.

  • Canalizará, en coordinación con la Oficial de Salud, consultas programáticas y administrativas de las contrapartes, y apoyar la presentación de informes, de acuerdo con las normas y procedimientos de UNICEF.
  • Realizará el monitoreo regular del desarrollo de las actividades programáticas conforme a los lineamientos estratégicos de UNICEF y los términos específicos de cada Proyecto en ejecución.
  • Brindará asistencia técnica para la realización de encuestas, sondeos o estudios.
  • Elaborará documentos como informes mensuales de actividades, notas, minutas de reunión, notas de prensa, cronogramas, presupuestos correspondientes a las actividades vinculadas a los proyectos de las mencionadas áreas, y otros documentos de trabajo similares.
  • Apoyará los procesos de llamado y contratación de consultorías, siguiendo las normas y procedimientos de contratación de UNICEF.
  • Elaborará términos de referencia para someterlos a aprobación.
  • Dará seguimiento y control de las fechas establecidas en los contratos para entrega de informes y finalización de contrato, junto con el apoyo a las contrapartes para las solicitudes de prórroga según necesidad
  • Revisará informes narrativos y financieros de los proyectos y actividades en curso.
  • Mantendrá actualizados y ordenados los registros informáticos y físicos de las actividades bajo su responsabilidad.
  • Gestionará la agenda de reuniones con organizaciones contraparte.
  • Redactará nuevos proyectos en materia de salud pública y nutrición
  • Participará y apoyará en reuniones, talleres y otros eventos programados por UNICEF, o en representación de UNICEF.
  • Acompañará a misiones oficiales en terreno y participará en entrevistas y reuniones técnicas internas de UNICEF.
  • Deberá apoyar a las acciones de respuesta a las emergencias en salud y nutrición.

Cualquier otra actividad que se requiera o sea asignada por el supervisor.

Además de lo anterior, a los Voluntarios de la ONU se les insta a integrarse al mandato del programa VNU en el marco de su asignación y promover la acción voluntaria a través de la integración en las comunidades en el desarrollo de su trabajo. Como tales, los Voluntarios de la ONU deben dedicar parte de su tiempo de trabajo a alguna de las siguientes actividades recomendadas:

  • Fortalecer su conocimiento y entendimiento sobre el concepto de voluntariado por medio de la lectura de publicaciones pertinentes tanto del programa VNU como externas, así como desempeñar un papel activo en las actividades del programa VNU (por ejemplo, en los eventos de conmemoración del Día Internacional del Voluntariado);
  • Conocer y desarrollar las formas tradicionales y/o locales de voluntariado en el país anfitrión;
  • Proveer reportes de autoevaluación anuales y al finalizar la asignación sobre las acciones de VNU, resultados y oportunidades;
  • Contribuir con artículos/críticas de sus experiencias en el terreno y enviarlas a la sede para su inclusión en el sitio web, publicaciones, panfletos/boletines, notas de prensa, etc. del programa VNU;
  • Ayudar con el Programa de Mentores para los nuevos Jóvenes Voluntarios de la ONU;
