Empowering women economically in Bangladesh

Tuba Ahmad, national UN Volunteer Programme Support Officer, serves with UN Women Bangladesh under the joint programme on Women’s Empowerment for Inclusive Growth (WING) implemented by UN Women, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF). Tuba supports communication and knowledge management of WING while promoting gender equality and women's economic independence.

Tuba was one of 40 UN Volunteers recognized for their volunteering impact during the 2022 UNV Country Awards in Dhaka. She was awarded 'Champion UN Volunteer’ for her outstanding contribution to gender equality. As a member of the Women’s Empowerment for Inclusive Growth programme, she assures that national partners and the private sector local investments are opportunities for all, particularly women. Tuba organizes events and workshops and is also responsible for related information material.

Tuba co-facilitated five workshops for the private sector on Women's Empowerment Principles, a joint initiative by UN Women and UN Global Compact. During the workshops, 32 participants were trained on gender equality and women's empowerment in workplaces, marketplaces, and within their communities.

I am glad to be a part of this change making process through my UN Volunteer assignment. Being recognized during UNV Country Awards has been an anecdote for my contribution towards women's empowerment. I feel more responsible for my next course of action to further advocate for gender equality and the Sustainable Development Goals.” -- Tuba Ahmad, national UN Volunteer Programme Support Officer with UN Women in Bangladesh

Tuba supported the launch of the 'Narir Pashe' (translates to: beside women) a social and behavior change campaign in five districts, where women entrepreneurs create awareness on gender equality.

Tuba has used her skills and expertise to support us in advancing gender equality. Working for the joint programme allowed her to strengthen communications and interpersonal competencies needed in the UN system.” -- Mehzabin Ahmed, Programme Coordinator with UN Women in Bangladesh.
