UNV - Share the Story (Cyprus)

The water campaign in Cyprus helps building trust and reconciliation. Everybody has an interest in preserving their shared water resources. Cyprus is a very arid country and goes more arid as time goes by, with less rainfall and more water being used.
This is a shared problem between the 2 communities (Greek and Turkish). An environment technical committee was set up as part of the reconciliation process on the island. They implemented an awareness campaign to show that people are working together. The campaign aimed at ordinary consumers and agricultural sector so that people can save water without affecting their finances or their way of life. A workshop was held with stakeholders of both communities, all volunteers. The committee is trying to demonstrate that cooperation on shared resources can be a factor in building trust and reconciliation.
