Volunteers at the training

COP 23 training motivates, inspires and informs more than 600 volunteers

More than 600 volunteers are trained today for the UN Climate Change Conference COP 23 held in Bonn from 6 through 17 November.

There is an anticipated participation of about 25,000 people from around the world for COP 23, which will be made possible with the help of many volunteers. Out of them, more than 600 are trained today at the World Conference Center in Bonn.

The training comprises of motivational sessions and on-site specific task coaching. Modules on volunteering at COP 23, skills and capacity building, cultural awareness, and global climate action are prepared through which volunteers acquire hands-on information and also discuss these topics at length. Facilitators from the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) conduct the training.

Mr. Olivier Adam, UNV Executive Coordinator, spoke to the volunteers earlier in the session:

You will make COP 23 a reality and at the same time you will gain valuable insights on climate action. Volunteers are the engines of climate action. The fight against climate change requires a huge mobilization effort, and the one billion volunteers are pivotal to engage everyone, everywhere.”
