This week and for the second time in less than a month, the average age in the building UNV Headquarters in Bonn dropped significantly, inversely proportional with the rise in levels of energy and enthusiasm. UNV, as part of a series of UN Youth Volunteer training sessions, is hosting groups of young people attending their Assignment Preparation Training.
On Thursday February 19th, Richard Dictus, the Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme welcomed the Secretary General of the Arab Federation for Voluntary Activities (AFVA) Mr Yousuf Ali AlKazim from Doha, Qatar, at UNV Headquarters in Bonn.

On Wednesday February 11th, the Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Volunteers programme (UNV) Richard Dictus, met with M. Romain Schneider, Minister of Luxembourg for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid in Luxembourg. Were also attending this meeting, Mrs Martine Schommer, General Director of Luxembourg Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid; M. Marc Pitzen, Senior Inspector for the Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid and M. Georges Metz from the Ministry of Education and Youth in Luxembourg.
For most of the attendees, including UNV staff present, the highlight of the UNV Partnerships Forum 2014 was the session on the first day called Inspiration in Action – Blue Room Talks. Eight UN Volunteers from across the globe took center stage to share their stories and provide inspiring insight into their assignments, and the difference they are making within communities every day.
"The UNV Partnerships Forum has lived up to its theme—Innovation for Volunteer Action," said UNV's Executive Coordinator Richard Dictus as he closed the event held in Bonn, Germany on 30 September and 1 October 2014. Attracting more than 100 people from around the world, participants discussed the theme, within a stone's throw of UNV headquarters, in the historic Wasserwerk (meaning "waterworks") building which housed the German Parliament from 1986 to 1992..
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme and Action Aid Denmark reaffirmed their longstanding partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the sidelines of the UNV Partnerships Forum 2014.
The fruitful partnership between UNV and Action Aid Denmark started in 1971 and since then, the Danish organization has been fully funding UN Volunteers assignments and supporting UNV in the recruitment, preparation and training of Danish nationals, who are placed as UN Volunteers with United Nations entities worldwide.
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme and the African Union Commission (AUC) today signed a project document on enhancing the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps for peace and development in Africa. The project is based on the previous understanding where both organizations committed to harmonizing efforts to promote volunteering as a catalyst for advancing socio-economic development.
The German Federal President, Joachim Gauck, made history on 12 September by being the first German head of state to visit the United Nations (UN) Campus in Bonn.
During his visit, Federal President Gauck honoured the work of the United Nations shortly before the 40th anniversary of Germanys admission to the world organization. Both German states, the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic, joined the United Nations on 18 September 1973.
Two photographs by UN Volunteer Igor Rugwiza (Burundi), Public Information Officer with the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) are featured in the art exhibition Arte Suste Mobile in Hamburg until 30 October 2013. The exhibition is an official project of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014) that seeks to mobilize the educational resources of the world to create a more sustainable future. The theme for 2013 is sustainable traffic, mobility and transport.
